I'm thinking of taking a chance and booking one of the DING fares today for my southbound flight. 4 people N/S for $311 on August 24. Excellent.

Problem is right now there are no internet fares left for my return on Sept 2 or 3. Has anyone seen DINGS become available for flights that were only selling fares in the higher cateories?

Help, I don't know If I should take the risk of buying these one way fares. Unfortunately, I can't stay there forever (even if I would like to).

This is a hard one. I just checked and there are flights available for Sept 2/3 but these might not be the flights that you want. You want to fly home on Sunday or Monday of Labour Day weekend and these flights are liable to be full and not go on sale as readily as other days. If you know that you are flying on a US holiday it is always best to book as soon as the fares come out and then hope for a DING which might or might not happen. Then save the credit and fly again within a year of booking.

If you aren't willing to commit to a flight that is now available and be willing to pay the price for the available flight on Sept 2/3 I wouldn't book the flight going down in August.

If however you are willing to commit to an available flight for Sept 2/3 I'd book that flight and the flight going down now. There's a chance that the flights on Sept 2/3 won't go down in price and may in fact go up due to the holiday.

The other option is to fly on September 4th. This of course depends on whether you can or not. My DS is in university and we do have the option to fly home on the Tuesday although I know that most people do not.

DINGs or sale fares are not available for all days and all flights.

I also need advice.... booked this morning and now see one of my flights in less money.
What is the process for having the difference refunded to my credit card?

Thanks!!!

You have to call Southwest directly to see if they can refund the difference to your credit card. It depends on what fare you booked if they will refund it to your credit card. Most of the time it's just a credit to be used within a year of booking. If you can't use the credit you can always give/sell it to someone else -- it's done by confirmation number so it's not a problem to let someone else use the credit.

You can also see if you can get a refund by looking up the confirmation under Travel Tools -- if you qualify for a refund to a credit card it will allow you to do it online as well.
