Need advice on front loading washer & dryer...

I didn't feel like they were that much - but let me tell you - regardless, they are worth every penny!! The storage capability is great!! Mine has a separate compartment for dryer sheets, and just not having to look for where that box has fallen now is a timesaver for me!! It holds all my detergents, bleaches, etc. And that's just the one under the washer. I use the one under the dryer for storage for other things. Mine has a little sliding top thing on them when you open them that you can set the laundry basket on, and I love just dumping the clothes straight into there without ever having to bend over. My kids have started helping out more now with the laundry without complaining as much because it's easier for them.

*nod* The model we were looking at, the pedestals were $200 each, which put our grand total (taxes, delivery, etc.) at a little over $3000, not horrible, but if I can spend less these days, I try to, KWIM? I saw some pedestals that were $500 each :scared1: I'm super lucky that my laundry room is set up so that I have ample storage in the right places.

My 3 y.o. DS started "helping" me recently. It's far cuter to watch than it is "helpful". I can't wait until they're old enough to really pitch in

Don't forget FL do you a lot less water. I love my GE FL. Don't forget to use HE detergent.

A lot of the top loaders these days are HE as well. My Cabrio uses the same amount of water as a FL does.

JUST MY OPINION, BUT - DO NOT BUY MAYTAG NEPTUNE!!!

I purchased a washer and dryer in Feb. 06 and spent $2500 combined. Two days ago while drying a load (one pair baseball pants, one jersey and 2 socks) we heard boom, booom, boom!!!! Opened it up and one of it's "fins" was floating around in there. Called Sears to come fix it $140!!!! Called Maytag because to me it is a quality issue (and their web site states their first objective is QUALITY products). They wouldn't do anything!! I am sorry but a $1200 dryer that falls apart in 2 years!!!!! The tech was here today and the screws had fallen out. Well unless you know how to take the monster apart, you have to pay somebody to find out that the screws just fell out! My last washer died at age 37 and my dryer lived to 32 years. Both also moved to three states and lasted!

Neptunes were part of a huge class action suit - check the Internet for details. From what I've reaad, they are no longer producing them.

Sears Kenmore is made by Whirlpool and they are excellent, as are LG.

Happy washing, Tiger :)

We bought our Kenmore HE from Sears through their contractor program and got a great price!! I can't remember what it was, as it was over a year ago, but it was cheaper than anything else out there, and we had one year/same as cash with some major rebates!!

I absolutely love it. And unlike someone else said, you absolutely can wash a king sized comforter in it - I do it all the time. We've had no problems with mildew like I've heard others complain about. It cleans well, the drier works great!! I love mine!

I've been using liquid Gain for over a year with no problems at all. Mine has a cleaning cycle, and I just run it once a month - no problems here at all.

We just bought new HE Fl washer and dryers by Kenmore. We got in on a special sale ended up several hundred dollars off each. Anyway so far so good it washes and dries a great deal of laundry for my family of 6 and we have a grat deal of laundry every day! We also got the extended warrantee for 5 years. Figured if we don't use it fine but if we do need it atl east it is all covered.

Ours were a little under $200 each (from sone reason $159 is sticking out in my mind), but anyway, I've got my money's worth out of them for sure.

DH laughs at me because when I've got both the washer and dryer running, and all those lights and gadgets are lit up, it just cracks me up - told him it reminded me of a cockpit. When you can actually smile about laundry, you know you made a good move!

See... $159-ish is reasonable to me, I could definitely go with that. The LG's were $500 each! No way! An extra $1000 just for height and some drawers? Nope, couldn't do it.

I get a little giggle with all the lights and beeps and readouts too. Smiling about laundry is a good thing ::yes::

We purchased the LG steamwash washer and dryer set 6 months ago and we love it. To do large loads, I would recommend the washer to be 4 cu ft. This size can handle king size loads. There are some FL out there that state can do king size loads and are not as big as the 4.0 cu ft, thus I would question it. We purchased ours at Home Depot. They were having a clearance sale (getting rid of last years models to make room for this years models), and the washer and dryer were marked down an additional 20% on top of the clearance price. I hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the advice. I think I've decided on a Whirlpool Duet steam. I checked with Sears & we can use the Contractor program (15% off non-sale or 5% off sale.) But I think we are going to wait just a little while longer and see if any good rebates come along so we can take advantage of both.
