Being the nice guy that I am, I rented a studio at OKW for 3 nights as a gift for my nephew. It was supposed to happen at the end of this month. It totaled 65 points. He informed me last night he can't go.

How do I proceed? I don't know anyone that wants this reservation on such short notice. If it's important, here are some particulars. I have an August use-year. I used my remaining 20 points from the Aug. 2005 use-year (which were banked points). I borrowed 45 points from the Aug. 2006 use-year.

Any suggestions are appreciated, including what protocol to follow. What are my options?

Thanks in advance for everyone's kind assistance.

Put it on the rent/trade board and offer as a rental or as points for use before the end of your use year. If you cancel now, the points will go into holding so that will limit their usefulness for some renters, but there are some who don't plan too far in advance and they may want this reservation. Good Luck with it!

If cancelled, all of the points will need to be used by July 31 this year, so I'd try to rent the existing reservation first. Transferring the points is not an option since some have already been banked and the rest were borrowed. If you have no success with that, make sure you do cancel the reservation by the day prior to arrival so the points may still be used thru the Holding Account - that way you'll still have another 6 months to find a renter or use them yourself.

Good luck! :)

Once you cancel you could ask DVC to use your one time exemption and try to bank the points. That would also take them out of holding account status as well if they allow it. You could also cancel and reserve say a Monday to Friday stay a full 2 months out and offer that for rental. You could keep doing this until you find the right renter for the points you have since you have a number of months. In your ad you could also indicate you'd be willing to reschedule that way those who might need something different than you have could know it might help them as well. I'd leave out the part about the holding account status in your add and inform only those who contact you if it were applicable, else you'll get lowball offers. To be clear, I don't have a problem with lowball offers, it's others right to offer and your right to say yes or no.

Or the best option, plan a trip yourself.
