NEED Advice on Buying New TV - HDTV - Wide Screen?

Some TV's such as some plasma and the like come with or without a tuner built in. If it doesn't have one you can get a digital cable box or Direct TV etc and use that or just buy the tuner option for the TV and use regular cable. You are better off gettin one with it allready in the set. Plus stay away from Plasma unless you like to buy a new expensive tv every 4 or 5 years.

To actually get HD TV, you must either have a built-in HD tuner or use a Satellite receiver with an HD tuner in it. Even at this date, most HD TVs are HD "ready," but not able to receive it without an external tuner. My best advice is to go to a dealer who knows all this and can explain it to you well. I also made sure that I went to a dealer which had a showroom with the different sets hooked up, so a person could see what each set looked like in HD. We went to Conns.

Just another point here. Places like best buy and the big box shops are not always the best place to shop. You may get a bit better price but you pay for it in terrible customer service over the long term. I would ratehr pay a little more from a smaller independant shop and get great customer service than save a few bucks and have to argue with them about getting repairs etc.
