I need 1 lens to take with me to the parks. I don't want to take my bag with me. I have the following... 50 1.4, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 70 - 200 2.8L IS, and 18-55 IS. I'd rather have a zoom lens. What do you use as a go to lens?

This always seems to be a problem with us as well. It's bad enough trek around the parks all day without the extra load of camera equipment. I have the Canon Xsi and usually just keep the standard 18-55 IS on it. But then again I'm definately not a professional photographer.

Looking at your lens selection, I would say the 18-55. That lens will not cover everything there is to photograph at WDW, but will work with many things. If you stay within the limitations of the lens then you won't be disappointed, just don't expect it to work well on the dark rides, lowlight motion images, obviously long distance shots (aka safari ride, shows in front of the castle, etc.). Since I never want to be without, I always carry four lenses when I visit the parks. I cover 28-200 with two f2.8 lenses, I use my weather resistant 18-55 for wider angles and water rides, and 30 f1.4 for dark rides.

I agree with the others, if you are only going to take just one lens, the 18-55 is the one to take. You definitely want wide.

I agree the 18 - 55 would be the best. I typically use the 27 - 70, because I don't want to carry the 70 - 200 around ;) I also like having the wide angle.

I took the 85 1.8 on our last trip and the pictures turned out fantastic. I'm tempted to take that and just zoom with my legs :thumbsup2 . Maybe I can convince my wife that I NEED another lens?

I'm curious, what would you get if you could convince your wife?

This question comes up a lot and there just isn't a right answer since everyone's style is different.

I couldn't stand being at Disney without something fairly wide though. By the time I back up to get more in my shot, it seems all those other crazy people just get in my way!

I use my 17-55 f/2.8 90% of the time in the parks.

We brought an 18 x 200 and it never left the camera. A little heavy but it wasnt bad. If you dont get to buy a new one take the 18 55!

I was thinking 28 - 135, possibly. The cost is low(ish). Maybe the Tamron 18 - 270 or 17 - 50? One of the wide Canon L's would be nice too.

I don't think it's worth it to buy additional lens or rent, you're get great pics with the 18-55IS and 50 1.4 and a folding travel tripod which can all fit in a holster style case or small bag

I have the 18-270 Tamron lens and love it. It was my walkaround lens. However, for Christmas I got the 24-105 so I've been playing with that since. I miss the extra wide and zoom of the Tamron, but the sharpness on the Canon is much better.

I will use my 17-85mm, but I will also take my 55 1.8f in a padded lens bag in my handbag. It's so light, you would hardly notice you had it. Xx

EF-S 17-55 2.8 IS lives on my 7D when I'm there. I always trek along my 70-200L and my 10-22, but I rarely use them.

If I have a particular thing in mind, I'll bring one of the extra lenses along in a separate LowePro lens case in the backpack. I NEVER haul all my glass through the parks -- too much weight.

If I see something I want to shoot, and I don't have the perfect lens on me, I try to zoom with my feet, change the angle of the shot, or figure I can return the next day with the glass I need.

Additionally, I never keep my camera in a bag -- it's always on the BlackRapid strap and ready to go. That way I have no monkeying around when opportunity knocks.

Enjoy your trip,

Boris
