Ok, here it is. My DW and I are headed back in September. We will be there during her birthday (18th). I have secretly booked us a reservation at Victoria and Albert's.

We have been there before and really enjoyed it and I think she'll be very excited.

My problem is....how to figure out what she will want to wear and pack it without her knowing.

Help.

Do you know her taste well enough that you could surprise her with a new dress as well? Of course, you'd probably need to bring along one of her 'tried and true' outfits just in case she didn't like it or it didn't fit well...just slip both dresses into a garment bag filled with your clothes. Don't forget the dress shoes and undergarments! I know if my DH were doing something like this I'd have a gorgeous outfit without the proper bra to wear with it!

If you don't want to get her something new, just bring along a few of her favorites and let her choose. Don't worry.....she'll be thrilled with whatever you decide.

I suggest taking her out for a nice dinner in your hometown before your trip. Take note of what she wears (down to undergarments, shoes, and pantyhose). When she's not looking, pack that outfit to take on the trip.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I may combine the two. Take her out and take note of what she wears and then pack a few extra things just in case.

Now, just keeping it from her for the next 5 months.

LMGDAO!! Touchy situation but KUDOS for you for thinking of it.

Do you have any formal occasions to go to within a month or two of your trip? If you have a wedding etc I would take a look at EXACTLY what she is wearing - which shoes, bag, jewelry, undies, dress and bring all of that! That will be the easiest way to make sure you pack something she likes, something she is comfortable in and to make sure you include EVERYTHING that she will need to dress up for dinner :)

If you don't have any formal occasions just prior to the trip I suggest you enlist the help of one of her sisters if she has any, mother, best friend etc.

GOOD LUCK!

Upon further reflection, it is probably somethin that I will need to wait until a month or so before we go to worry about. At 5 months out, she could very well gain/lose weight before the trip, negating any choice I could make now.

:teeth: I had to read this twice - I thought you meant her 18th birthday. After my initial surprise at a married 17 year old, then I got really jealous that she'd already been to V & A's before - at 17! :lmao: Have a great time!

:rotfl2:

I thought the same thing! And when I saw the pics...I thought..."hmmm, I GUESS she could be 18 years old, but he looks older...what a perv!""

And I also was jealous that an 18 year old was getting to go to V&A! I am glad you posted danemom, cuz I would have left this thread still thinking all those things!!!!!!

Master Gracie-You are such a great guy for planning that! Have fun!

LOL I thought the same thing at first, but quickly realized it meant the 18th day of the month. I was going to make a snarky comment about him marrying a 17 year old, THEN I saw the picture and got scared that maybe she really was only 17!

This will be such a nice surprise for your beautiful (and very young-looking!) wife! I'm sure she'll love it and it sounds like you'll be able to pick out the outfit just fine. If you, for whatever reason, don't feel you can, you could always take her shopping in Orlando after you surprise her with the news.

What a sweet thing to do for her.

Does she have a best friend, sister or mom that could come over and pick something out about a week before your trip? Also, maybe they could also go shopping with her and get her to try on some new dresses.

What a cool thing to do for your DW 18th birthday! Maybe I could pass you my DH e-mail addy and you could inspire him to do something this cool for my upcoming 30th this August!!

I agree with the others who said to take her out to a fancy restaurant one night and take note of the outfit she wears. Of course it would have to be a place as fancy-pants as V&A's so you could get the right vibe. Alternately you could ask her mom or sister's (but beware of them spoiling the surprise!)

What about telling you made ressies for somewhere else? If you told her you were going to Citrico's, you could hold off til literally the last minute since you check in for V&A and Citrico's at the same place . . . just try and convince her that you think it'd be nice to really go all out and get all dressed up for the night as a nice contrast from the shorts and t-shirts of the parks.

It never even occurred to me that it could be misinterpreted...although upon rereading the post, I can see it.

No...she is 27...will be 28. She does look young for her age though. I am 33 and she is VERY fond of telling people that when she was in 7th grade, I was a freshman in college.

She's like that. :)

ooh...I like the Citrico's idea. It's business casual right? Maybe I could convince her to step it up a notch for that.

Thank you all for your advice.

I think I'm set. We have never been to Citrico's. In fact, the only time we've ever been to GF is when we went to V&A the first time.

So yesterday, we were sitting at our computers and discussing where we should make our ADRs and I told her I thought I really wanted to go to Citrico's. She said that was fine with her.

ME: "Of course we would have to dress up."

DW: "Would I have to wear a dress?"

ME: "Yeah...Citrico's is the only other place in WDW besides V&A where you would have to wear a dress and I would have to wear a jacket."

This is the benefit of being the only one who researches the latest happenings on the DIS. She loves Disney as much as I do, she's just not a Forum kind of gal.

So she bought it. We will get all dressed up and head to GF on her birthday and she should be none the wiser until we follow the signs to V&A.

Now I just gotta kill 4 1/2 months until the 18th OF SEPTEMBER, when she will turn 28 YEARS OLD.

Just thought I'd clarify that. :teeth:

Hey I thought the same thing and even went to his profile to see how old he was. When I saw 30 something I thought the same as you guys and wondered how old she was when they got married and how long had they been married. Oh well, I guess that's what I get for thinking the worst and also for not minding my own business.

OP: Have a great time by the way and I'm sure anything you pick out your wife will love.
