My sister & I are in the planning stages for a trip to Disney in late fall. My husband and I want to camp because we have a dog (and want stay in the park) but my sister wants to stay in an off-site hotel. The problem with off-site hotels is that if they do allow pets it is usually only small pets (under 20 lbs). My dog is a lab so as you can probably guess is well over the 20 lb limit. Money is tight this trip and splitting the cost of accommodations is one of the ways we can save money. Here are some of our choices: 1. We stay in FW and let them stay in a cheap off-site hotel (there are 4 of them) 2. Try to talk them into camping, which so far has been an up-hill battle. or 3. "Underestimate" :rolleyes1: the size of our dog and take him the Disney Kennel when we are at the parks. I would like the hear others suggestions or ideas on this matter. BTW we would be tent camping.

Don't do #3, that could get you kicked out of your recommendations. #1 is your best bet if you want to bring your furbaby. There are some very inexpensive motels not too far from the parks, that the other family could use. Then you would just have to coordinate your meeting times. Also, I've heard Pop Century, on property, is just as reasonable as some of the off site motels.

In order to bring your pet to Fort Wilderness - you must camp in a hard side rv (not a tent or pop-up).:sad2:

I'm not sure of the requirements for kenneling your dog, but I think you can kennel a larger dog, such as your lab, while you are at the park.

You could stay at POP suites and split costs, would about the same as outside motel. You can kennel your Lab at WDW with all shots being up to date. You have to bring shot records. We have put dogs in kennels at Disney over the years with no problems. You do have to walk them at least twice a day. Depending on when you are now traveling they now have free dining this fall, better hurry for that.

I thought as long as you are at the campsite you could keep a pet with you and just put him in the kennel while you are at the parks? Is this not the case? As for the requirements I half looked into it: So far the only thing I've seen that Disney requires is the shots to be up to date (including "Kennel Cough") which they are.

Its my understanding also that you have to have a Hard sided camper to have a pet in the pet loop. It might be easier just to call and get a firm answer. I have seen tents in the pet loops but no pets.

The pet rules you will sign when you check in to FW state that pets are not allowed to stay unattended in tents or pop ups, only hard sided campers. So even with a pop up, you can have a pet - it just must be kenneled when you are out at the parks. You can bring your pet back to your popup and keep them overnight as long as you are with them all the time. If you have a hard sided camper, they can remain unattended but if they become a nuisance for other campers, FW may make you kennel them.

When i called a few year back to see if we could bring your dogto FW Disney said yes but NO tents or popups. We had a popup at the time and we where leave in 4 days for a 2 week trip to FW. So I had to run out and buy a MH. It was a great trip.

The rules are as I stated, and have been for the last 9 years. We kennel during the day, and bring him back to the camper overnight with our hybrid, which for these purposes would be classified as a pop up.
