My Dfather, DD (4), and I are traveling to WDW for Christmas for the first time (although have been fortunate to have been to WDW many times) and will have DxDD. Currently, we have CP reservations for 8:10. We have eaten there before and everyone likes it. Problem is, I just realized MK opens at 8 that day. Should we stay with that plan, or switch to a 7:30 breakfast at the Wave so we won't miss too much precious early-morning MK time? I'd appreciate your thoughts. :santa:

Keep it. This has been a common question on the boards. You can still get in a large amount of rides. The week we go, MK opens at 8 am every day. The breakfast should take maybe an hour, hour-thirty. If you're worried too much about it you can have someone in your party take the tickets and grab fastpasses to your favorite Fantasyland or Tomorrowland ride. Liberty Square, Frontierland and Adventureland will open at 9 am (hour after opening normally). So you'll be able to hit those rides with little wait after your breakfast ADR.

I guess that is what I'm really worried about - sitting in CP feeling stressed that we should be out getting on rides before the Christmas crowd onslaught starts.

If you're going anytime between 12/24 and 12/31, MK will open at 7am to on-site guests. I wouldn't make any changes...you're on vacation, just enjoy your time together. A character breakfast can be just as much fun as an attraction with a line out in front.

We're going 12/18-12/24; the morning in question is 12/20. I tried to substitute CM at 7, but of course they are all booked. GFC is available at 7, though. We are staying at VWL.

It depends on if you're dead set on doing CP for breakfast. MK has other breakfast options (Main Street Bakery) which is a CS. If it's for the Characters you can run into Pooh and the Gang plenty of other places around WDW. We're going roughly the same week as you, and we usually frequent this week. Yes, it's been crowded but with the earlier hours they usually begin to build around 10-11 am in MK. We end up leaving MK as soon as it gets crowded around noon or so and leave for lunch and Epcot.

I think the answer is in yourself. If you are going to be stressed and worried about sitting at breakfast and not out riding rides, then you should cancel. Neither answer is "Right" or "Wrong" it is about enjoying your vacation. There will always be another chance for CP if that is what you decide.
Enjoy

Are there later times available? It might be worth it to see if you can get something for 9:30 or 10:00 at CP. You could be at MK for 8:00, get some rides in before the crowds, then go to CP for breakfast.

That is a good thought, but there is nothing else (for any meal!) at CP that day. I think I am going to switch to the Wave (and keep trying for later CP cancellations). Have a leisurely boat ride to the CR for a 7:30 ADR and then walk over to the MK. I appreciate everyone's comments so far!
