I need your advice for adding on points. We have 300 VWL points with March as our use year starting date. We would like to add an additional 100 to 150 points. Should we try for the same home resort (we love it) and use year, or should we be flexible about these things? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having different home resorts and use years? If we choose a different home resort, will 150 points be enough? Different use years may be a nightmare for me to manage, but I'm sure I could if I had to do it. Also, who would you recommend we use for the sale? Our original sale was with DVC. Thanks for your help.

Personal opinion - go for simplicity - same resort, same use year. Think about the advance booking - you have 11 months out for home and 7 months out for other resorts, what if you need to combine? You can do part of your vacation 11 months out and pray that the rest will be available 7 months out. If you routinely bank or borrow you will have 2 sets of "deadlines" to keep up with. Go simple!

I agree. We have 2 "homes" and have often needed/wanted to use points at each other and have not been able to. One of our resorts is BWV and it really screws things up when we book in a SV room and then by the time the 7 month window is up we can never add nights to use our WLV points. We added only enough points in our 2nd home for 5 nights most of the year or about 8-10 nights every other year. It will certainly work if you really enjoy another resort. It will just take a little more planning that's all. Good luck deciding.

I say keep it simple also. We love VWL and have a Sept use year. We were debating between doing a BCV add on or a VWL resale. The perfect resale with a Sept use year came along. We were able to add it under our original membership number. Now we have 3 contracts under our one number; our original, an add-onn and the resale!

Our add on was within one month of our actual use year so it isn't to bad to keep track of ....

I own 2 resorts and 3 use years (April, August and Dec) and it really isn't bad to keep up with as long as you pay a little attention to detail. There are some advantages in that you can chose which use year and contract to use in case you need to cancel. You can also book what would be considered a more difficult to get reservation at the 11 month out and then at the 7 month window substitute points from the other contracts/resorts. Obvously this assumes there are units that are available or come available through the wait list but it still is a way of guaranteeing reservations and using the other points much of the time.

If you buy the same use year, then DVC will just keep the same member number and increment the .00x on your contract for the new set of points, even if done on a resale. If you have a different use year, they I believe you get a separate member number.

Banking and Borrowing deadlines are easier to keep track of with a common use year.

Unless you really want the 11 month advantage at another DVC resort (e.g. you want to be able to book summer prime time at Hilton Head), I'd recommend going with the same resort, so you can use the 11 month advantage to the maximum.

If you want to buy a resale, just tell one of the major resale brokers what you are looking for and get on their contact list. They'll let you know if the right location and use year becomes available.

Thanks for your help. I am going to try to get WLV with my original use year. I will be contacting a few of the agents when I get back from my vacation. I leave at 5pm tonight for a land tour and cruise to Alaska on the Dawn Princess with my DH, DB and DSIL. I'm sure we will have a great trip, but I'd rather be going to WDW. Can't wait til December for our next trip home.
