Hey folks,
I'm new here, but have spent a couple of weeks reading and learning from you folks. I am a 41 yr old paraplegic (T2) result of a car wreck when I was 7 yrs old. I am prideful to a fault and have spent many, many years trying to prove I can do anything. Latest adventure was moving my family to a 5 acre mini farm (minus the animals) and bought a tractor that I use to mow the fields. I used to play w/c basketball, tennis, race in 10k runs and just about anything I could think of. Now all that has caught up with me. The rods in my back are broken in several places, and have caused my scoliosis to get pretty bad. Doc says no harm being done and to leave well enough alone. Pain is manageable. Now for the real reason for this post. I am taking my family (wife, 10 yr old son, and twin sons that are 6) to WDW starting this weekend. As I've said, I have always prided myself on being very independent, but I also know that there is no way I could wheel around all 4 parks w/o some major pain meds. Soooo, I did something I never thought I would do...I rented a scooter. And yes its killing my soul to picture myself in one. I have already told my kids there will be alot of rides I won't be able to ride on. I am taking my everyday chair (of course). Are these scooters able to get around as good as regular chairs? Will I need to tow my regular chair behind the scooter?

If you can trasfer yourself to the ride then there is nothing that you CAN'T do at the world :goodvibes and it sounds like to me that you seem to to a good job of getting around. I have seen people zip around on the scotter like it's nothing so you should have no trouble at all. They will fit into almost all of the lines, but the ones that can't take them have wheelchairs at that point so unless you just feel better by having your own, I see no need to tug it along. Be sure to grab a map for disabled guest. It shows you where to enter the rides. Here is a web site that might help you out some. I hope taht you have a great trip. http://themouseonwheels.com/

Hugs  I say try to take it slow and I've never used a scooter, but my friend did and she loved it. Said it was much better than her chair and she felt like she was free to do anything. Nothing else for me to say, but I hope you get the answers you seek:goodvibes. I hope that you and your family have a really great time at the world:flower3:
