Need advice ASAP, we leave Sat and I'm concerned about the BC

I need advice bad, I'm so torn. I got a great deal on a CL stay at the BC from Disney, they made a mistake with their quote to me and they honored the price quoted when the mistake was found.

We are doing an adult only stay for three nights. I want to sleep in, hang at the pool, have some nice meals and do some late EMH.

The BC right now is going through a rehab. When I booked I knew the Yachtsmen was going to be closed, but this past week, they've closed Hurricane Hana's and the drink and food options are extremely limited. Not my ideal vacation...

The gym has been relocated somewhere ( the Solarium ? And reports are its not stocked well). Well DH goes to the gym everyday, he must have a nice workout.

They have relocated the Club lounge to the Oresudential Suite and reports are that it's too cramped, the other lounge frankly was a bit small.

They are now changing out the carpeting, this starts at 10:00am in the mornings. Will I be able sleep in, or will I be awoken by carpenters working?

To sum it up, this is not the setting I've been imagining for our vacation. We don't stay onsite anymore, it was supposed to be a treat and this doesn't sound that way.

I was not notified of any of these rehabs by Disney, I only learned of them from here.

Now here's where I need advice, I called Disney today and requested we be moved to the BW CL. The CM was very nice and understanding and put me on hold while she spoke with Guest Services, who told her since I had gotten that deal, any change at all in the package and it reverts to current pricing. I then asked what if I just cancelled altogether and was told I would pay the $200.00 penalty.

I am considering cancelling. I love the BC, but I can rent DVC points and stay in a 1BR at the BWV and only be put the $200.00 and the club level lounge.

I'm really mad at Disney for not communicating these rehabs to me and then not letting me switch resorts, with my deal.

Am I wrong for feeling this way ? What would you do ? I'm torn.. Thanks

I'm sorry you're frustrated. What I've learned from these boards is that everything always seems worse than it actually is though.
I would probably go, and see how things are, then request to be switched at the front desk, if things are that bad. It's possible that while they can't do anything over the phone, the front desk CMs may be able to transfer you to the BWI without any extra cost to you. They might not have access to what you paid in the first place.

Unfortunately, this is an example of them actually enforcing their policies. You could try calling back to see if someone else might give you different results.

You are 100% correct in feelling the way you do.
For the large amount of money that are you spending to stay CL you should not miss out on many of the amenities that will now not be available to you.
The CL lounge is the size of a broom closet, but sorry, moving it into a suite is not acceptable if you are paying CL rates.
I would not "try it"and then if you don't like it try to switch resorts; what if no resort is available, then you have the worst case- staying at the BC without being able to us the facilities that you are paying for.
Note that if you stay at BWV you cannot use the CL lounge at the BWI, so this not an option for you.
I would call WDW, explain the situation, and ask to be switched to another resort. If you don't get satisfaction then I would ask to speak to a Manager, and then keep going up the chain of command until you are satisfied.
Someone just posted on the YC/BC thread that they got upgraded from CL to the VP suite; surely Disney can go out of their way to help you out when clearly they are not giving you what you are paying for.
Good luck!

Well, it sounds like you got a great $$ discount, accidentally. It's really nice that WDW honored it. If I got a deal like that, I'd take advantage of it!:thumbsup2
Have you called/emailed the Itinerary Planning Office yet? If I were you, I'd email or call them first thing tomorrow. 407-934-1448 They can probably tell you more about the rehabs, options. Tell them what your goals are for this trip--adult only, relax, pool, dining options. Ask them about dining options, both nicer and casual.
They have been great helping me with a lot of planning and information, questions and concerns.

The Beach/Yacht club thread is very helpful, and that's another resource that might be good for questions, and suggestions.

I would also go . . . Whatever deal you got, it sounds like it must be great. My thought would be to at least try to ask for a room far away from the carpet installation or any other current construction? I realize this doesn't help with gym, lounge or closed restaurants. But perhaps if you share your worries at check-in, they might be able to do something for you. Or assuage your fears!

Well, if you are leaving soon it is highly unlikely you would be able to rent DVC points for your stay so throw that out the window. I still think your stay will be magical. If you encounter something unacceptable when you get to the resort then talk to the manager and see what they can do to fix it. No use worrying now over something that may not be a big issue. I know it is frustrating. Hope you have a great stay!

All I can say is I know how you feel.
About 4ish years ago was the only time I've ever been able to stay CL (at the Poly) and I had no idea any rehab was happening prior to the trip.
We were awakened by the sounds of work in the AM, and when walking the hall during the day we would have to step over power cords at time. It was really disappointing because our one shot at CL seemed kind of.... Not so special.
I actually really regret not complaining or doing something about it ( like asked to be moved or something)

I can rent points at BWV, I looked into it today.

I've called and spoken with CM at the BC, I did this a week ago when I heard about Hurricane Hana's closing, they weren't very helpful.

I did get a good deal on our stay, but it is still costing us $1600.00 for three nights. That's a considerable amount of money for us, 5 weeks worth of daycare.

I think I am going to call back tomorrow and talk my way up the chain.

I guess overall I'm sad that all this is happening at my favorite resort, during what was supposed to be my very overdue needed vacation.

Where are you seeing availability for BWV? It's booked solid for the next couple of months (with a midweek day open here and there). If you're looking at the Disney Web site and seeing a 1-bedroom available at BWV, then that room would only be available for a cash reservation, NOT for a points rental.

I think you should still go. Beach Club is one of the most highly regarded resorts on property. Even with Yachtsman Steakhouse and Hurricane Hannah's closed, there are still plenty of options for eating in and around BC. You could pop over to the World Showcase for lunch, or they will have expanded options for CS at Beach Club Marketplace during the HH refurb. And why not try Shula's at the Swolphin instead of Yachtsman Steakhouse? You have options, why not try them?

I'm surprised at all of the changes happening at the Beach Club at once, and I can definitely understand your concern.

This is what I know so far (from guests who are currently at the resort):

The move of the club level lounge to the Presidential Suite is just for a couple of days to replace the carpeting, so it should be back in the regular location by this weekend.

Some gym equipment has been moved into the Solarium. Guests are also permitted to use the facilities at BWI during the closure (I'm hearing mid-Nov).

I haven't heard feedback on any disruption from the carpet replacement.

HH closed on Monday, and I haven't heard much about how the replacements are working out, except that with the rain, service was severely limited yesterday.

As others have indicated, if you keep your reservation and find the accomodations are not acceptable, talk to a manager about switching. I believe the CMs will do whatever they can to make you happy.

Sorry you are having this pre-trip stress and I wish you a relaxing vacation, wherever you end up.

Its up to you what you want to do but not sure Disney would have to honor your price if you request to move resorts. We were at the BWVs during their complete rehab and it never bothered us at all. They are waiting until 10 a.m. to start any carpet work - by most of their standards this is late. They figure most people are up and out by then. Be happy they are waiting until 10. In my experience you usually don't even know they are there. If your husband is able to go over and use the BW gym that is much better than what the BC had to offer in the first place. We used the BC gym on a few days and they are not as well equipped as the BW. Mostly treadmills and elipticals. We just go out for a run in the morning since there are so many great places to run to and from. For us Hurrican Hannahs being closed would be no big deal at all since we never liked the place to begin with. We get hopper tickets and go into Epcot for lunch or walk to the BW Bakery for their great sandwichs and salad. You have to do what makes you comfortable but we were there in Aug. and many of the hallways carpets were already done, so I would just request a room where the work was already done.

what about asking to switch to yacht club instead? It's sort of more the same resort then beach to boardwalk. just a thought.

boardwalk, and I dont know about in general but I do know that for this particular time you are going as we are leaving sunday, was more expensive for this coming week. So you are not only asking for them to keep your same discount but to give you a more expensive hotel at that discount, which is why I think maybe asking about yacht club would be a good way to go! Maybe its not now with rack rates, but we booked with the fall promo and beach was 30% off, boardwalk I dont remember the discount I just remember it was more!

sorry about your frustrations and good luck !

I think this is excellant advice. I would wait until you get there and if things are not in an acceptable state then request to be moved. I imagine it is true that at this point they can't change your reservation without charging you the undiscounted rate, but once you are there and there is an actual problem, then I think they can help you out with moving. Sorry about the stress right before your trip. Have fun, SAB will still be fabulous :cheer2:

Hi,

We are staying at the BC club level 11/6-11/9. Just got off the phone with the club level itinerary planning...she said they are only replacing the carpet in the lounge and that will be finished today. Shouldnt be other construction/work being done up there.
She said while Hurricane Hannas is closed for refurbishment..they will still have drink service set up by the pool...so all the amenities will still be available.

Much ado about nothing, it seems! :goodvibes Thanks for letting us know. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all your advice, we're going to stay at the BC. DH can go to the Boardwalk for his exercise and if we have any issuses, I'll address them as they ( of if they) occur. I'm going to go back to being super duper excited about our vacation!!!

And that is the right approach to take. I hope everything goes well and you have a well deserved good, relaxing time.

I agree that you've made the right decision. The CL lounge should be back to normal, the gym in the solarium would be pretty nice depending on how they have it set up, and the construction noise shouldn't be an issue. I was there when they were doing the sandblasting on the exterior a few years ago. It really didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. As far as HH closing, we only eat there once and that was as soon as we arrived. If I had known about Captain's Grille, I wouldn't be there instead! My favorite Disney restaurant. Yummo! Have a great trip!!
