Need accommodation advice

My DH, my two DS, my SIL and niece are sharing a cabin in April. Yes, I know it will be tight! Well, my MIL just mentioned she's thinking of joining us. So that pretty much means now for us we would either need to book a villa, or a second cabin. I'm just curious to hear if anyone has any other suggestions. I think FW fits our family best because we want to be on-property but I like the idea of some peace & quiet.

Any ideas?

Is one of the kids an infant? If not, then yes, without breaking the rules you would need a second accommodation.

No, the two youngest are three. We weren't thinking of trying to squeeze her into our cabin with us. I feel like we are already going to be tight, I can't imagine another adult in there with us. She could book a cabin by herself, but that's kind of pricey. I'm trying to run all the options.

I would do a tent and a campsite for whoever might enjoy it the most. Request the 2000 loop and 2100 loop for the campsite and cabin respectively so you'll be within walking distance of each other. Or, for less money than a cabin you could rent a large RV from CampAtTheFort.com and pitch a tent on the same site you have the RV on (up to 10 are allowed on a campsite). Then you could all be together and save a fair bit o' cash. CATF delivers and sets up the RV, so it should be as easy as checking into a cabin, and you can pick your level of site and thereby control what part of the Fort you stay in. Most campsites are in superior locations compared to the cabins anyway.

Hmmmm...interesting. That's an idea I'll have to "pitch" to the group...ha! We are on the 4/3 deal, so I don't know if we'd really be saving much, but I'll have to run the numbers. My only qualms are we are all flying so we'd have to buy a tent, air mattress, etc. all that stuff down there. We do camp, so we have all the gear, but it's up here in VT.

Thanks for the advice!

I'd just stay in the cabin and squish..... Thats me....... I would bring a sleeping bag and put someone on the sofa. The cabins are the size of two hotel rooms. One hotel room holds 4 people.......So do the math....Yes...it is breaking the rules...........I guess I'm a rule breaker..... a rebel...... Sorry for giving bad advice.....BUt in these economic times..........thats what I would do..

But if money is not an object..I would look into the Wilderness Lodge....because it is SO close and you could meet up via the direct bus. There is no other hotel w/ direct bus access to the fort. Good luck regardless.

I agree. Or I would rent DVC points and stay at Old Key West. When I considered renting points, I could get enough for a 2 BR for just a little over 200.00/night. You would need to read up on it on the DVC boards first.

Tenting can be done while flying - others have done it - but it would be much easier to me just to fly in and have accomodations already set up, etc.

I'm not sure squishing is an option because we were going to do DME. I guess they could take a cab if we did that.

The DVC thing is a good thought, I'll look into that. I'm not sure how it would work with Disney since we are already paid in full for our visit (end of April). But that's definitely a good idea to entertain. I just need my MIL to decide for sure if she wants to join us or not!

We were going to squish when our plans were to stay in the cabin. One person was not going to be on the reservation - that person was going to take the Mears Shuttle.

I know - it is not the right or correct thing to do.

BTW - that "person" wasn't sure they were going to be able to come - as it turns out, he is not coming after all.

Save the extra money for a golfcart...Shan's right, ditch the cabin idea and go with www.CampAtTheFort.com . Those folks are super friendly, and very service oriented...the RV sleeps up to 9 people, PLUS if ya really needed to(which I couldnt see why ya would) you could STILL pitch a tent on the RV site at no extra cost...win/win situation. Cheaper than a cabin, better location than a cabin...great for large family groups......its a great all around deal.

I have another idea - since most of my ideas of yucky anyway - tell MIL that she can't come this time, but maybe next time

I checked that 5th wheel site but unfortunately it's not available for some of the days we are going to be there.

I actually WANT my MIL to join us. I get along very well with her and all of my husband's family.

all I am saying is an air mattress (or 2 or 3) goes a loooooong way in the cabin......:rolleyes1

There is ANOTHER guy here on the boards who also rents his RV, since CampAtTheFort is booked on the dates you need...send a PM to "stacktester", he's a regular here...and a helluva nice guy with a very nice camper for rent...also delivers the rv, sets up and teaches you everything you need to know about it. Im sure he'd be happy to hear from you.

having just come back from a cabin with 6 people...though technically it sleeps 6, when you are talking 4 adult sized folks, it is tight! I would strongly advise against squishing another one in there, you will be really maxed out at 6 and might need that couch for one of your six. If it were me I'd look at doing 2 connecting rooms at a moderate. It'd be cheaper than a 2nd cabin or a 2B villa, probably 1K more instead of 2.

A tent frankly would be a lot of work, even if you rent everything, it's just more work in terms of cooking etc. But if you have to have a kitchen and you've got 7, your only option on property is a 2B villa. Renting points would actually be more expensive than getting the 4/3 deal so I personally wouldn't bother.

I really appreciate all the advice. If we did rent a tent site, it would really only be for sleeping, she'd be eating meals with us at the cabin. The tent site idea may work well for us, as my husband and older son might enjoy spending a night or two in the tent.

I'll be there the week before, so I could buy an inexpensive tent, etc. at Walmart or something, rather than shipping our gear down.

I was thinking along the same lines- try to get a tent site nearby and with your family demographics (if that was MY family demographics I mean) I'd just go with the tent site and DH/DS's would want to sleep in the tent.
Actually even without the same demographics (ie: me, DH, 1 DS, 2 DD's) probably my DH and atleast son if not all the kids would want to sleep in the tent.... instead of MIL! LOL
But then it depends on who in your family, if anyone, is the "camping in a tent" type. Mine are. Heck they keep doing it in the backyard "just because". LOL
