Need a wheelchair accesible stateroom

Okay, so I booked a 3 night cruise in Sept. 2015 on the Dream. My son is in a wheelchair and when I booked our trip there were no wheelchair accesible rooms available. The Disney Cruise agent told me to keep trying back to see if one becomes available, also when we get to Port Canaveral at check in before we board the ship to talk to guest services to see what they can do? Has anyone ever had this problem before? I am concerned that a regular stateroom will be to small for his wheelchair to maneuver around in? Any info, or suggestions out there? Thanks!

I have know parties in the past who have been assigned accessible staterooms without needing or requesting them. Most likely they were GTY and not in demand for those sailings. But because of the OPs situation, I'm wondering whether DCL has the right to move someone from an accessible room they have booked when they do not truly need it to ensure that a party who does need it can be properly accommodated? Of course I would assume they would have to be able to provide the same or better category room in its place to the first guest. Is this a policy?

We need an accessible cabin for my mother. My policy is, if there's not one available, I pick another cruise. I can't leave it to chance, it's a necessity for us.

If you absolutely need the accessibility features, I'd call back and speak with someone else and push about needing the accessible cabin. I personally think you received very bad advice. Accessibility isn't a "wait and see" kind of thing if you need it.

I'm surprised there were none available unless it is for Labor Day weekend. I would call back and say it's not an option to go without a HA room. There are a few rooms that were originally meant to be HA but they didn't designate them as such. One of these might be available. They are half accessible ... the larger open layout, larger door, it has no steps onto balcony or into bathroom, roll in shower but doesn't have other handicap room options such as handles in bathroom, doorbell or auto door opener. One of these would be better than a regular room. Like room number 9160 is HA but the mirror image room 9670 is not HA but is better than a regular room. Another mirror image set is 6014 is HA but 6512 is not but has some of the features. If you read the room reviews for these type rooms you get a better idea of what they are like.
