My party of five which includes DS (9), DD (6), myself and two grands (70s) are looking for a great restaurant to head to from MK during our spring break day trip. We are going to have a VERY long day at MK and we are going to use this meal as our break for the day. After we eat, we'll head to the arcade or just sit and relax somewhere at the resort (a resort with an area for the grands to relax would be a big plus). I'm thinking a late lunch or an early dinner, either would work. I have reservation at 1900 Park Fare, but I'm rethinking it. How relaxing would a buffet be? My daughter would love it, but we've been to CRT before so it isn't a must.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! We haven't spent much time at any of the MK resorts so I definitely need some help here. Thanks in adavance. :flower1:

Our absolute favorite monorail meal is at Knoa Cafe in Poly! Great food, rarely crowded. Kids love the specialty desserts and the meals. We do make ps for dinner if its after 7:30pm , but before that you can usual get seated with little or no wait. we just ate there 12/30/04!
Connears

I would say Kona Cafe at the Poly too. Resonably priced, a nearby arcade to let the kids run around in after dinner and a great lobby for sitting and relaxing.

Hope this helps!

Another vote for the Kona Cafe! My DS13 *still* talks about the "Kiddie Cone" they have there. It's a huge cone that stands up straight on the plate, filled with ice cream and candy, surrounding by cotton candy and a chocolate Mickey head! We've had all 3 meals there and enjoyed every one of them.

The Polynesian is a great resort if you want to have a meal and take a break from the parks. :sunny:

Tagging on to my own thought-

If you didn't HAVE to see Wishes from Main Street, the beach at the Poly is a great place to watch them without the crowds. I'm sure you could time your PS to get you out there in time. Just thinking that with a group that size and a very long day, it might be nice to get out of the throngs.

I second the Kona Café, but there's also the Grand Floridian Cafe. Surrounded by windows through which sunlight filters into the dining room, it's a lovely spot for a unrushed quiet meal. They serve sandwiches and salads (generous portions; plan to share).

Kona Cafe was the first though that came to my mind too! Very relaxed, great food! The Poly is a great place to slow down the pace for a little while and enjoy the sites.

Another vote for Kona Cafe. It is a very relaxing restaurant, and the food is fantastic. It is one of our absolute favorite WDW restaurants. :D

Before reading the other replies, I was thinking of Kona Cafe too. Either that or Ohana, also at the Poly. Ohana doesnt serve lunch, but dinner begins at 5:00, thats why Im thinking Kona might be a better bet if you want to eat earlier.

My first thought was Kona too!

I think you have your answer.

No one mentioned Grand Floridian Cafe? Why not? I've never been there, but was hoping to try it out on my next trip for my relaxing lunch break. Now I'm wondering.

Not to sound like a broken record, but we went to the Kona Cafe for luch in December right before heading to the airport. The food was wonderful and so much flavor!! We had to try the Koko Puffs and they were sooooooo good!!! I wish I could have tried all the dessrts...

I did :) I didn't want anyone to forget it.

We ate at the Grand Floridian Cafe during a break from MK on our last trip. It was wonderful - a nice calm get-away from the parks. Even if I did only have a hamburger, and my daughter chicken strips (the same as we would have ordered in the MK), it was nice to have the food served to me on a real plate!

The shops there are nice too. They have one of the charm bracelet "stations" that my daughter likes, and without the hustle and bustle of the MK main street shops.

Three good options:

Kona Cafe (Polynesian)
Grand Floridian Cafe (don't get a booth)
Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea (Grand Floridian)

Just curious, why do you say don't get a booth?

The best arcade (and good shopping, too!) is over at the Contemporary, and they have a big counter service place there as well. Just in case you are not looking for a big expensive meal.

But I'd still go with Kona or GF Cafe, and you can go down to the beach to hang out.

If you are looking for lunch, your options are limited to one restaurant per monorail resort. At the Grand Floridian, you can dine at the Grand Floridian Cafe, which has some very nice sandwiches.

At the Polynesian, lunch is served at the Kona Cafe on the 2nd level (which is also the level of the monorail dock. We love Kona Cafe! They have good sandwiches and some outstanding salads!

The Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary is located on the 4th level, near Chef Mickey's. Never eaten there, but the menu looked pretty good.

Of course, for dinner there are many choices.

At the Grand Floridian you will have the choice of Narcoosee's (one of our favorites... overlooks Seven Seas Lagoon with a nice view of Cinderella's castle. Great food and service.
1900 Park Fare--- a character buffet with Cinderella and friends.
Citricos-- more upscale dining. Nice menu, great service. Smart casual dress requested (no tank tops, bathing suits, men with collared shirts, preferred)

The Polynesian boasts of one of the most popular restaurants with families. That is 'Ohana (which means family!). This is an all you can eat, served to your table meal with roasted turkey, pork, shrimp and beef. The kids will love it too, as they have coconut races and hula hoop contests for them. The atmosphere is great, you can see them cooking the food, or perhaps your table will be closer to the window, which would afford you a view of the Magic Kingdom. We went with my family, which at the time, included one 6 year old, a 32 year old, a 35 year old, a 38 year old, a 39 year old, and 2- 60 year olds. We had an outstanding time!
Kona Cafe, which also serves lunch has a wonderful dinner menu, as well! Love the terriyaki steak.,.. YUM!!!
The Polynesian is also the home of the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at their own Luau Cove. A fun show, including all you can eat luau menu and beer and wine. This show will allow reservations up to 2 years in advance, so make your arrangements early, if you are interested.

At the Contemporary, you will find one of WDW's signiture restaurants... California Grille. They feature an open kitchen, dining on the 14th floor overlooking the Magic Kingdom, and Nuveau Cuisine. The dress here is smart casual... (no tank tops, bathing suits, prefer men to wear collared shirts).
The Concourse Steakhouse also serves dinner. The steak is good, but personally, if I want a steak, I would go to the Yachtsman at the Yacht Club.
Chef Mickey's-- character buffet with Mickey and friends. A bit on the loud side, with lots of waving of the napkins. Buffet food is ok. Always books up weeks in advance! Many people's choice for dinner on their first night to "get them in the mood"!

Whatever you choose, just being with family will make it all the more special! Have a great time!:)

Wow! Thank you for all of the wonderful responses. I think I definitely have a late lunch spot- Kona for GFL. I am a bit torn though. A couple of people mentioned Ohana for an early dinner. I have been wanting to try Ohana for years, but didn't really think of it for a relaxing break. An early dinner would work for us, we'd just head over early and enjoy the resort a bit before we eat instead of after. What do you all think? Would we get a relaxing break at Ohana for dinner? Or would we just be better off at Kona/GFL? I do have two kiddies 6 and 9 so I would like for them to enjoy also.

Thanks Again! :flower:

Well, its based upon personal experience and preference. We have dined in booths and tables at the Grand Floridian Cafe and found a notable difference.

Tables are located in the center of the room and along the garden windows while booths (1/2 chairs 1/2 booth) are located along the inner wall....tables locations in our opinion provided a higher level of ambience and "warmth" adding to the enjoyment of our dining experience.

We also found table locations to be cleaner than the neighboring booth locations.
