Need a rant

So I had a plan, a beautiful ADR plan.

I was dutifully at my computer at the beginning of my window and booked everything I needed.

The only restaurant I couldn't get was BOG so for the next 30+ days I checked, checked and checked again and finally got a place.

So was feeling pretty pleased with myself and happy that my plan was complete.

Then in walks DH, he found that there's going to be a NASA launch while we're away, right on the night I have a chef Mickey's planned. I tried to stress this point and he uttered these words

"Well can't you just book it for another night?"

Book it on another night, BOOK IT ON ANOTHER NIGHT.

sorry don't mean to shout, but really!

That night was planned to perfection, we would eat at Chef Mickey's then walk to MK to catch end of the night and the Fireworks.

Now I've got to try to re-arrange to get the same sort of time, without clashing with my other plans and along with not hitting a party night we don't have tickets for (as he still thinks it a good idea to walk to MK afterwards to see the fireworks).

So wish me luck with the re-arranging and the strength not be too harsh on him, he is naive and ignorant in the ways of ADRs.

Ha! Your post made me laugh (a bit) and I completely understand your frustration. Can you just do something totally different that night and not rearrange anything? Maybe you can see the launch and the fireworks, but forget Chef Mickey's? Maybe do Chef Mickey's for a breakfast before a park day?

I just went through that sort of. I made all out ADRs got all the times we wanted and my dh announced he wanted to eat at BOG for dinner at about 100 days out. After I stopped laughing I told him I'd book it if I got lucky, very lucky and don't complain if we had to eat at 9pm. BTW I must have asked him 25 times at least "Are you sure you don't want a BOG dinner?" I got lucky on the first try 8:50pm. Long story short and several changes later we have a 6:45 which is almost perfect. Don't give up, but he's going to owe you big time just for trying. I get no complaining about the bill I run up at Basin

I had to chuckle at your post, OP, but I completely understand your frustration. I hope you've made him understand that he owes you big time for this.

Tell him that there "MAY" be a launch, it's not guaranteed. Weather and mechanical issues can strike right at the last minute.

Oh, man, if the launch is scrubbed, the amount he owes will be YUUUUUGE!

He's helping you out by keeping you from eating the steaming pile of garbage at Chef Mickey's. Go back and apologize for your folly and enjoy your ability to eat an actual meal with people food.

No one understands crazy hard ADRs like DIS'rs. :grouphug: But the PPs are right. I have only caught 1 in 4 launches b/c they are scrubbed so often. Its at the point recently where it seems like more are scrubbed than launched. And CM isn't that great. But we can keep this between us DIS'rs and you. Maybe you can finagle a bonus foodie experience out of this? :thumbsup2 Always a silver lining.

I've been there. As the avid planner in my family, I'm very hesitant to pass on the duties. I always check and re-check the plans with my family before doing it and still there's people who are unhappy.

Last trip it was crazy hot outside. I always plan one day where we spend the afternoon at EPCOT and the night at DHS; then spend the morning at DHS and the evening at EPCOT. On the day we did DHS then EPCOT, we ended it with a late dinner at Beaches and Cream. I figured we'd eat around the world and fill up, go to DHS for the evening then Beaches and Cream for ice cream and (if we were hungry) dinner...

I think the heat had my family feeling a little irritable, because you would have thought I planned a triathlon. "Oh we're going to DHS too?" "What are we doing for dinner?" .... We're doing exactly what I said 190 days, 61 days and two days ago!

Don't even get me started on our day at Animal Kingdom. It was 90 degrees and someone decided not to heed my warnings and pack shorts. So... yeah.. I feel your pain.

Launches are by no means an absolute thing. While the one I accidentally saw (while walking to the start line of the January Half marathon in 2015, I believe) was cool, I cannot imagine putting all plans on hold for the possibility that it will happen.

Then again...

I wouldn't have said it like that, but I really haven't heard anything positive about CM dinnertime food. And their breakfast was awful. I would cancel it and party, even if the launch is cancelled.

We're doing exactly what I said 190 days, 61 days and two days ago!

Ha. I know that feeling very very well!

It's gotten to the point where I need to just tell them where to go (I don't love feeling like a dictator or drill sargeant), not care if they aren't listening (which then makes me the "tell them where to go" person), or sit them down, get eye contact (no electronics anywhere in the vicinity!), and have them repeat it back to me so I don't have to repeat it all 18 times because they weren't paying attention the last time. Or first time. Or yesterday when they asked. etc.

Tell him to do it.

Don't even be snarky about it. Tell him you're a bit drained from looking at ADRs for so long and it'd be a great help if he could pitch in with this single ADR by "just booking it for another night".

We had tickets to a launch during a trip a few years ago, VIP tickets I might add. Launch scrubbed, of course, so we gave them to a friend who was going on a Disney cruise when it was rescheduled. She said it was very nice and enjoyed it alot. We decided then and there never again, if we happened to be there and there happened to be a launch we would go.

1) How many times will you eventually visit WQDW?
. . . Chef Mickey's will probably still be there
. . . fireworks will probably still be performed
2) How many times could you coordinate a Florida visit and a NASA launch?
3) Sorry, I have to side with hubby on this one.

- I totally get how hard you worked.
- My DH always wanted to be an astronaut and launch timing is pretty cool to many.
- CM it not anything special so I would just work at meeting characters in parks instead.
- As much as I try to call all the calls on our trips, for DH to be happy at Disney we have to do some stuff he likes, this would be one.
- If you must why not try for CM for breakfast instead?

The launch we saw as kids was really very cool. That would be a great thing to get to experience. However, I totally feel your pain on the "oh can't you just get an ADR for another night?" thing. I'm the planner for my extended family and they do not all appreciate the difficulty, which leads to some irritating requests for changes. It's like, really people?! We spent three months nailing this down BEFORE the 180 day mark for a reason.

Completely agree. Even if it's only an OPPORTUNITY to see a shuttle launch, you go if your schedule coincides with it. It's very possibly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people, unless you live close by.

The fireworks at Disney are the same every night (except around the 4th and New Year's)....the food at Chef Mickey's is the same every night. I won't even discuss the quality, or lack thereof.
