Need a new hotel, change of plans...

So, my mother was going to meet me for a couple of days before I have a work conference in LA, a week from tomorrow. We had great plans--fancy car rental, stay at the GC (with her paying!) Now she has a work emergency and has to cancel. I'd still like to go to Anaheim for a day or two, but I really can't afford the GC.

I'm looking on Expedia, and I see the Carousel Inn and Tropicana for about the same price. Any reason to choose one over the other? The Fairfield Inn is a little more, and has the benefit of a name I recognize, but does it make sense to pay more? I'm still going to rent a car (price is better than cabs from LAX and then to downtown LA, and I can then explore if I like).

Do you think I can solo-commando most of the two parks in two days? I think I want to see WOC, but can probably live without the other shows. I've carefully planned this for two people over three days, so I feel like I'm completely starting from scratch.

We stay at the Tropicana. I feel it's safe, clean, location is great and the price is very reasonable.
If you decided to skip shows, I recommend you reconsider for Aladdin.

Can you go for the three days being solo? Solo gives you the ability to pick the speed you go through the parks. Being there at rope drop will really help you get lots done.

Two days is better than skipping it. Have fun.

Aw, bummer. The good news is that you can still have an awesome time, but yeah bummer about the Grand. Maybe next time!

I haven't stayed at the Tropicana or Carousel. I like the Fairfield. Nothing fancy at all, but clean and an easy walk. I have always had a good stay there.

As a solo, you should be able to get a lot done. I wouldn't necessarily count out other shows. Maybe look up the Paint the Night Parade and see if you are interested? Fantasmic is also pretty amazing.

Are Disneyland tickets like WDW--where I can buy two days and then add a third if I want before the end of the second day? I wouldn't have as much time the 3rd day, so I'm still trying to decide if it's worth it. I won't be able to rope drop day one (fly in that morning), but I can definitely go until close at midnight and rope drop the next morning.

It's definitely a bummer to not have my mom with me, but I will have fun on my own.

Yes you can choose to add on another day just like at WDW. We also have a check in for each month so maybe you could meet up with others from here for a ride or show? You will have a blast either way and with some basic planning you will probably get the majority of your must do list done. Just one note- imho F! Was a FAR better show then WOC and worth seeing for sure! We have also heard PTN is the same must do but I haven't seen it in person myself yet.

Yes, you can add on another day if you like. It is probably a good idea to wait and see if you feel it is worth it.

We've stayed at the Camelot Inn which is the sister property of the Tropicana. We love the Camelot - always clean and nice. I would expect the same of the Tropicana.

I would book a hotel quickly. Hotels seem to be filling up fast, especially with your trip only being a week out.

We stay at the Carousel quite often. It's a short, safe walk, rooms are always clean and the staff is nice. It's not the Grand, but since most of your time will be spent at the park, and not in your room, it would be a good choice.

I ended up reserving the Fairfield, with my only reason being that I'm a sucker for valet parking. I know, silly.

Now that I'm getting over being bummed, I'm a little excited about what going alone will allow me to do. Haven't decided if I should keep my Fantasmic/WOC Dining packages or not. Maybe I should just taste test more QS dining? I'm starting my plans all over again as a solo traveler. My mom wouldn't have ridden coasters, so now I don't have to plan around that. I can also do single rider and walk faster. I've never done a theme park alone! Even though I'm a real WDW veteran, I don't think I've ever actually DONE anything alone in one.

Disneyland is great to do alone! I go to a lot of theme parks alone and am always able to enjoy myself. The Fairfield is a nice hotel...nothing fancy as others have said, but I liked it when I stayed earlier this year.

I say keep at least one of the dining packages. It's nice to not have to worry about a good position for F! or WoC. You should be able to get on a lot of rides and still have time to see some shows and just take in the scenery. Enjoy!
