We need to buy a new camcorder before going to Disney in November. Currently own a Canon for last 9 years, not bad - has had some repair costs. Would like to get a Sony or Panasonic next - Hi 8 mm (not digital - can't justify the cost). Any one have the Sony Hi8mm CCD-TRV58 model? or can recommend another model?

We have a VL-AH60U Sharp and it's HI-8. We've had it for about 2 yrs and no problems. It has lots of neat features, but is easy to use at the same time.

I too have been looking at a new video camera and have heard wonderful things about Sony. They just released new models that are very small, which is important to me if I am going to carry it to WDW. Both Best Buy and HH Gregg had the last year models marked way down. HH Gregg had Sony model CCDTR818 8MM for $299 this week, and I know Best Buys prices are a little better. Good Luck!

Try ebay.com we've never been dissappointed with anything purchased from them (laser discs, football cards, a tent and stereo speakers).

Good luck!:bounce:

We have a Sony 8mm. It is the model with the LCD screen. We LOVE it. Bought it when we were expecting our first child 2 years ago. I love the LCD screen. Don't feel like I am behind a camera the entire time. Can still watch the action. Good Luck. We bought ours at Best Buys in Duluth. Georgia....customer service there leaves alot to be desired so don't expect much which is what I have heard about alot of Best Buys. Good Prices though.

We bought the Sony TRV66 Hi8 in Oct.99 in Orlando while on vacation. We had taken our 4-year-old Sony handycam with us, but the battery (the old NiCad)would not hold a charge. The cost of replacing our 2-hour battery was so much that we decided to buy a new camcorder with a lithium battery. We chose the Hi8, too, because we could not justify the cost of the digital, but they have come down in price now that there are more on the market. I am planning to purchase the 2nd generation Sony digital(the really small one held by Michael Jordan in the Olympics) in a few months when the price comes down a little. I have been pleased with both of my Sony's...as a matter of fact, we gave our old handycam to my husband's brother, who loves it. Even though I love the Hi8 with the LCD screen, I find the small size of the new digitals quite appealing. Best Buy also seems to have the best prices here in NC, too.

We just bought a Sony Hi8, TRV68 a few weeks ago. It has nightshot, steadyshot stabilization, and 460x digital zoom. We love it!

We bought it on a special at Sears for $399. The special that they were running was that it came with a nice camera bag, an extra battery, and a Hi8 tape (value of $70).

We've only used it a few times, but love it so far. The zoom on it is incredible! (especially compared to our old Canon)

We watched the newspaper ads for a couple of months to find a good deal.

Good luck!
Beth

Thank you all for your informative responses. We are from Canada but are planning a short road-trip to the States in a few weeks. It works out cheaper - even with the exchange at $1.55!!! - to purchase a camera in the States. I will check out BestBuys and Sears. I am glad to hear that you are all happy with your cameras. I can't wait to capture all those magical moments at WDW in November. Look for me if you're there, I'll be wearing my lime green ribbon and sporting a new camcorder!!
