So today I found out my grandmother who is 99, bless her soul, is in failing health, and in about two weeks they are going to move her to a nice hospice and wait until she passes.

I love my grammy and I hate knowing that any day now could be her last. The worst is that she keeps going on about how excited she is for easter and coming home from the nursing home to see her family and to eat her favorite meal, not knowing she probably will not be around by then. She's so with it and loves debating politics with me recently, so its heartbreaking to know she'll be gone soon and doesn't even realize it.

please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. You guys are amazing

A little story: Last April my grandma had a bad heart attack, she refused medical intervention and told the Dr.'s that she was ok with dying but she was going to enjoy what time she had left. They told us that we needed to find a nice hospice and get her in because she was not going to make it a month. My Grandma said they can say what they want, but she was going to make it to her 90th birthday party on October. The Dr.'s were very gentle with her about her prognoses, but very direct with us. My grandma sat in her ICU bed and made us all promise that we will laugh, not cry with her for what ever time she has left.

Guess what - She made it to her 90th birthday last October. Today she says she is going to make it to the birth of her twin great grandson's - they are due May 1.....I believe her.

That 30 days has turned into 10 months and counting.

It will be your grandmother's call, when she gives up not the Dr.'s.

So ENJOY her and laugh with her and love her.

 thank you I needed to hear that. She's a fighter this one. Last year we had a scare after she had her gallbladder removed. They all warned us. Nope. A few weeks later she was home visiting us at the holidays. I'm just hoping she can pull off a miracle again.

I hope yours can make it too. I believe in her too!

 Sweetie.. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.:grouphug:

My Grandmother was the single most important person to me growing up.. I remember with such fondness every second that I was blessed to have her...

Wishing you all strength and love

I know its too hard to lose our loved ones but you have to tell yourself that she has lived her life and now it’s time for her to find some solace for her as some more years wouldn’t be very pleasing to her due to falling health. So make yourself understand that it’s for her good.

Treasures every moment you have left with her. Also, doctors don't know everything. Hopefully she will be with you for Easter and long after.:grouphug:

just as an update, she is getting moved into Hospice care this week :( my mom brought her over an early easter dinner of roast beef to make her happy before they told her. She's really fading and its so sad to see.

I am sorry that things have not improved for your grandmother, it is hard to see a loved one deteriorate. It sounds like your grandmother is blessed to have a loving family. Thinking of you:hug:

Sending your grandmother and the rest of your family big hugs :grouphug:

Honey  as hard as it is try to enjoy every day that your are blessed with her presents here on earth. Make her, her special meals that she loves. The more she eats the better her body will be. It will comfort her and you to share meals with her.

It's always hard to say goodbye to someone you love. Just being with her will provide the comfort she needs in these final days.
99 years filled with many memories, happiness, and love. :lovestruc

As my final update, she unfortunately passed away today. Luckily she was surrounded by much of my family. so she had some love before she left us.

thanks :goodvibes it really has been. not to sound like a debbie downer, but this week alone has been terrible. first I got some news about my health on tuesday so I need a bunch of tests to see whats going on, then yesterday I find out my dog has an infection, needs a tooth pulled, and needs anesthesia for all of this to occur, and then i go out with my friend for a happy lets forget this all happened dinner, and when I get home i get the call.

Apparently my life is a lesson in "when it rains it pours" but i'm trying to make the best of it :)

I'm sorry for your loss.

I hope for good news for your health, and all goes well for your dog...

It does seem when it rains it pours. I hope the sun comes out for you very soon..:grouphug::flower3:
