We are going down and planning on stopping somewhere near Savahanna GA
would we be better off to wing it and stop on the way down or would we get a room cheaper by trying to book it now,any suggestions, we don't want to spend alot on a room since we will be getting there late and leaving first thing in the morning. :flower:

We like the Hampton Inn in Richmond Hill. It's right off of I-95, clean and comfy, and has a free hot breakfast. I think we paid about $80 including tax for a room with a king bed and sleeper sofa.

We usually pick up a hotel travel coupon book at the Welcome Stations and search out something there along the way. We arrived this time in Orlando the day before our reservations and found a room at a Hampton for $39 which included a free deluxe breakfast.

I stayed at this Red Roof Inn May 2004:

It was fine. They were running a Red Hot Deal on their website, and I think we paid around $47 plus tax for a Friday night. I reserved it ahead of time, but there was a coupon for the hotel in the Roomsaver book at the Welcome Center. There were several other hotels at that same exit should you decide to press your luck and not reserve.

Exit 36 A and B in Ga near Brunswick has alot of hotels to choose from. There are some nice restaurants to have dinner at near there too.

My wife visited our daughter in Savannah a few weeks ago, she stayed at La Quinta on I-95 where Abercorn (or whatever Abercorn is called at that point) intersects with 95. Rate was good, she said La Quinta was fine, I think her only negative comment was it had outside entry not an interior hallway. Found a rate somewhere of around $60, I think there was a free breakfast.

There are a lot of motels at this exit and your typical restaurants and fast food places found along I-95.

We stayed there on the way down (I believe on your recommendation) and it was perfect. It was clean and comfy, breakfast was great and it was right off I-95. Would recommend it...

We stayed here one night one our return drive home in July. The hotel was clean, felt safe, quiet, friendly staff and the free breakfast was a nice bonus before we hit the road. Our family of four had a room with 2 beds (I think queens) that was very spacious, and had a micro & fridge too. They seem to cater to business travellers. We paid around $70 with hubby's govt. discount, they may have AAA discounts too. I booked before I left home. They have a prety liberal cancellation policy, I believe it was that day by 6:00p.m. I think you'll get a better price and peace of mind knowing you have a decent place to stay the night ahead of time...
