WHen is the better time to depart disney? i can choose a flight at either 1:10 or 6:30. It is a 2 hr 10 min trip to home airport and another 2 hrs drive to home. My heart says stay in disney as long as you can, but that would put my ds6 and i home at 11pm earliest. The other part of me says leave on the 1:10 flight but that means leave the resort probably by 11am and what could we do before we leave. would probably not even be enough time to have a sit down breakfast.

please help me make this decission :confused3

Well I would pcik the earlier one, that way if your flight were to cancel or something of the sort, you would have more options. I don't know where you are flying into, but the later in the day there tends to be less flights.
Tough to have to leave Disney so early though!

hey i am no expert by no means but please take my advice here.we booked our flight of our last trip for later in the day thinking we would just hang around and use the extra day.well our check out was at 11am and although disney was willing to hold our luggage for as long as needed we had to be there for the magical express 2 hours earlier.there was no time to go to any parks and swimming was out of the question[no one wanted to fly wet!}
this left us hanging around outside our hotel for 2 hours.i can't tell you how boring this was.make the most out of your days there and get up and go as early as you can the day of your flight.i have 5 children 4 dd's 15,14,11,7 at the time and a ds 12.none of them could wait to get to the airport.
good luck with everything and have a great trip. :cool1:

Personally, as long as your DS doesn't have to get up early for school the next day I would take the later one. With that flight time you can check out early and head to a park for a few hours, eat, swim, (just keep a change of clothes and a plastic bag for the wet suit) what ever just enjoy the bonus day of your trip. This way it really will not give your DS a chance to be sad. If you are busy all morning and early afternoon he will probably sleep on the flight home.

Depends, what day?

If a Saturday - then the later one (you have Sunday to recoop)

If Sunday - earlier one to get back and unpack more time to settle in....

You said your heart says to stay as long as you can. IMO it is your vacation and you should do what your heart tells you! I usually take early evening flights so i can enjoy a few extra hours at WDW. I hate feeling rushed when I have an earlier flight. I am usually exhausted by the time I get home, but to me it is worth it. I think as long as you will not be too tired to drive home after you land, then stay a little longer.

I'm of the opinion that an earlier flight around noon is perfect. It just gives you more time to wind down before you go to bed.

Are you using Magic Express? If so, you have to leave the resort 3 hours before your flight. (The plus side to this is that you have lots of time to have a meal at the airport.)

Also remember that check-out time is 11:00 at the resorts, so have a plan in place for what you'll do during the time between check-out and leaving for the airport.

This year we had an 8 pm flight. We had park tickets, so we were going to spend as much time in the park as possible before leaving. WELL we all got very, very sick. We had not eaten or left our room for four days, and we had to check-out and wait. It wasn't much fun.

I would choose the earlier for a number of reasons -

#1 - I don't know your work/school situation, but if you have to work and your DS has to go to school the next day - it would make it much easier to get up the next morning if you got a good night of rest the night before. We are faced with a similar decision - we could choose a 6 AM flight or a 4 PM flight, however our flight is 6+ hrs. We chose the earlier one because both myself and my DH have to work the following day. For us either you can get home at 12 PM or 8 PM. Gotta save my PTO for future vacations.

#2 - If you have to leave the resort at 11 AM or before then what would you do the whole morning - you could go to the parks but by the time you got there and back to the resort - you would have a mere hour there to enjoy the last little bit of Disney.

::yes:: This is what I was going to say :)

Ok, maybe you might be a bit tired the next day-but you will rest later and then be fine...think of the memories you will have in a days time. Looking back you will remember the memories not the tiredness. I have been to Disney 27 times. Everytime, we hit the parks as soon as we get there, stay until closing and get back up and do it all over again the next day. Its vacation, you can sleep at home.

I'm with the stay as long as possible group. We're leaving at 5:30pm and we'll just miss another day of school if we get home too late (or stuck in another city).. We're doing a character breakfast that morning and then probably DTD before catching the ME to the airport. The last time we flew down we left midday and did do our faves in MK before leaving. Of course they ended up overbooking our flight so we got home very late that time. Either way you go, try to plan the next day as a "day off" if possible just in case.

NOT TO SEEM LIKE A KNOW IT ALL BUT ISN'T THE POINT OF VACATION TO RELAX ,HAVE FUN AND NOT FEEL RUSHED OR BORED.IF YOU TAKE ADVANAGE OF THE OTHERS DAYS IN THE PARK CONSIDERING THE LAST DAY AS SIMPLY THE DAY YOU LEAVE AND NOTHING MORE WILL NOT BE A BIG DEAL.I CAN UNDERSTAND NOT WANTING TO GET UP TOO EARLY BUT REFER TO THE DAY BEOFRE YOUR FLIGHT AS YOUR LAST DAY AND ENJOY YOURSELF THE LAST NIGHT .GET UP ,CHECK OUT AND HEAD HOME.I THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE TIME TO DO THINGS THE DAY OF OUR FLIGHT AND THERE REALLY WASN'T ENOUGH TIME .WHAT IF THE SHUTTLES ARE RUNNING LATE?DO YOU REALLY WANT TO RISK MISSING YOUR FLIGHT?JUST SOMETHING ELSE TO THINK ABOUT.BOTTOM LINE IS YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU BUT LEAVING EARLIER WORKS FOR US.GOOD LUCK! :smokin:
