on his Christening day. We had already planned on a $100 savings bond for him but that was before I was asked to be his godmother. I will still give the bond but I want something else special.

How about a loving letter explaining how you feel about the child and why you feel that way. Maybe explain your hopes for the child's future. I would think anyone would like to know how loved they were at a young age.

I like the idea of the children's Bible. DH and I gave one with a nice inscription to go on the shelf until the chld is older and a couple of "board" books to go into the child's hands early.

You might also try something from Things Remembered or a place like that.....engraved frame or bank or something with date of birth and/or date of baptism....

Or go to a religious store and find something that can hang in the child's room....a picture or saying....

If you are talented, you could cross-stitch or embroider something with the child's name..but that is not me!:goodvibes
Also remember, a godparent is responsible for the child's religious education AND their DISNEY education....so a first pair of ears might also be appropriate!:earsboy:

I'm not allowed to get him his first set of ears, his mom wants to do that. But I have already brought up with her that it's only about 2 yrs before we take him on his first trip to the World. My brother doesn't want to go but my SIL does.

a share of Disney stock framed from oneshare...that's what I did for my goddaughter. They are a disney family too...so it was appropriate. Maybe itll be worth more than I paid for the share someday!

I recently bought my precious godson/nephew cufflinks for his baptism (he was 6 months). I bought ordered some monogram sterling silver ones from blue nile.

I still have and wear a necklace my godfather/uncle gave me at MY christening and I wore that necklace to my godson's christening. I wanted him to have something similar to always keep. (I also threw in a silver polishing cloth in case of tarnish!)

As the baptism fell around christmas, I also bought an ornament with baby's name, church and date for my sister. Funny story - this was during the crazy NE blizzard and they postponed the baptism, so I had to reorder it, and my mother had to reorder a personalized frame she had made! Next time, no dates!

For my cousin's little boys christening we got him a complete box set of baseball cards for that year. It's been almost 18 years so hopefully he hasn't opened them!

I bought my twin nephews (who are also my godsons) their Christening outfits as part of our special gift. I also bought them silver sailboats that our local Christian bookstore had. They have the verse..."Fear not for I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper." I chose this verse because they have some lifelong health issues that they are facing. Sometimes Bibles are given by the church to the baby (I know mine does this).

My son's godmother is giving him a tree to plant for his first communion. I think it's a great idea and will (hopefully) last a long, long while.
