As lots of you know my Dad is once again battleing cancer(yep that is where I have been) and I need some help coming up with a Xmas gift.

I know many of you have unfortunately been in my shoes so what would you suggest. He is 76 - on oxygen about 75% of the time. Watches tons of TV(he now yells back at Jerry Springer), reads voraciuosly and is addicted to computer solitaire.

All I have come up with so far is warm fleece socks - he is always cold.

Any ideas would be a big help.

My DH who likes to play board games on the computer, likes Hoyles Board games and Risk. Maybe your Dad would like new games to play. Also how about sheepskin slippers. They sell them at LL Bean and places like that. They are very warm. Or a down comforter, I'm buying one for my DD, she's always cold. My family loves to snuggle in our blankies.

If he likes sports in SI this week they have a list of the best books written about sports. Maybe a book about a sporting event that took place a long time ago.

When my aunt (rest her soul) had Leukemia - this is what we did..

She loved music so we got her CD's of her favorite music. She didn't have alot of strength, so she couldn't do much, but did enjoy her music. Also got her some books on tape. One of her favorite things were the videos that were made for her to watch on her TV - granddaughter at her gymnastics meet, decorating trees, etc.

Fleece blankets are also good - kept her all warm and cuddly.

Here's hoping your dad is well soon and will keep you in our prayers

How about some of his favorite movies, maybe some classics.....I wish I could think of something creative.....does he have a tape player, you could him the audio books and he could listen while he is resting..

Hugs Lisa... I am thinking of you all... I have noticed you have not been around.. Please know we are keeping you and your family in our thoughts..

These are some great suggestions. I gave my dad flannel sheets when he was in the nursing home and he loved them. He was cold natured and they helped him stay warmer. When my FIL was very ill I gave him an electric mattress pad and it helped him stay warmer too, he loved that.

These are great ideas - thanks so much.

I am actually gonna do most of them. I love the flannel sheet idea. We have them so I don't know why I didn't think of them.

Thanks Marsha, we are doing well. I appreciate the good thoughts.

What about one of those hand held electronic solitaire games for days he just wants to curl up in bed but still wants to play? Maybe get him started on a new series of books? Does he have a dvd player....the portable ones are nice...he can plop it in his lap. Start him off with a few great movies. Maybe a subscription to TV Guide? The large print version! And I love the down comforter idea...The Company Store sells a lightweight version, you can order on line today and have it rush delivered. Lots of great ideas here! Merry Christmas to you and your Dad!!!

No good ideas here, but I wanted to send you HUGS and prayers!May you and your dad have the merriest christmas together!
