I have a G6 which is a nice camera but going from my 10D to this is like night and day. I'm looking for something with a faster focus thats easy to carry around. Is there anything out there? Maybe the Canon S3 or a Sony Cyber Shot H5?
dSLR still have the fastest AF. the only 'backup' that's sufficient will be a RebelXT. (which is somewhat of an upgrade in terms of IQ but downgrade in terms of BQ)
I'd love it...however, I went from a D60 to the 10D in a matter of months..so I'll stick with my 10D for a bit more. I'm pretty happy with it. The D60 had lowlight focusing issues.
I'm not into like I was before....but that will change. As for the slow start up time, it hasnt been a problem for me yet, but I can see why some wouldnt like it.
... why not a used 10D off eBay? Believe it or not I sold my old 300D on ebay for $490 more or less a year ago - and bought my 10D second hand off eBay for $590. No lense either way. And the 10D bodies go for as low as $450 or so now.... but the usual range appears to be $450-550. I even saw 2 broken parts only 10D go for $296 and $335 (#7631255423) or so... and a terribly beat up WORKING one go for about $313 (#200000953690)!!! All the edges had the black finish scrapped doiwn to the metal!!!
So... buy something new - or buy a 350XT for $600 (dell has coupons out + free shipping and a no tax to many states - supposedly). Or a high end point and shoot. Or...?
Here is a copy of the scrapped up 10D body that sold for $313. Although it looks ugly - the seller claims it works great and was recently serviced by Canon. If so - then this was a modest value - except for about $450-550 you could get a good condition working 10D. If salvage value on a broken 10D is $300 then getting a working one at $450-500 or so is a fair deal?!? BUT - is this still the case if a shutter repair (or mirror assembly replacement) is in the cards eventually? What do you think?
With my 10D I have been lucky. It works beautifully. I did try it with a tamaron 18-200 and it had the misfocusing problem that reviewers and forum postings warn of. SO I sold the otherwise impressive sounding lens. Now I am using a 70-300 IS f4-5.6 bought new from B&H and a 20-35 f3.5-4.5 bought off eBay from Hawaii. Both work just fine. AND... coming today via UPS (according to the tracking report) is my new (used) 28-135 IS. I bought all my black/grey label Hoya filters off eBay... saved 50%+ from local reatil stores like Canoga and Sammys'.
