Our neighbors invited us to a holiday gathering, we were invited last year but didn't go. On the invite it says to bring a $5 gift for an exchange (male and/or female). I would love ideas on this. I thought of ornaments, picture frame and Whitebarn had the wallflowers on sale for $5. I would love a unisex gift. I think men get the shaft on some of these things.

People seem to like scratch tickets..especially men.
The only other thing I can thing of is a coffee shope Gift Certificate, Dunkin Donuts etc.
Hmm...$5 is tough. Good Luck!

I would suggest ornaments, Dunkin Donuts/Starbucks gift certificates, fast food gift certificates, a coffee mug filled with hershey kisses or some kind of candy or possibly a calendar. Five dollars is tough, good luck!

there is always good ole blockbuster or subway or "someplace" gift cards for $5.00.

Dunkin Donuts has their coffee whole bean or ground at 2 pounds for $9.99. That way you can get a pound to keep and a pound to share.

Gift Certificates to a gas station are always safe - everyone needs to put gas in their car.

some very practical, but slightly boring stuff might be, batteries or windshield washer fluid.

You're right, unisex stuff is hard.

Found soup mix and chili mix in a jar at WalMart this past wknd for $5
Picked up the chili mix for DH

I like the girt certificate idea and the scratch off lottery tickets. When we live in the US Santa always puts scratch off tickets in my stocking and the last Christmas we were there I won $80....pretty good for only spending $5.

How about key chains or mugs. In a Sporting goods store, or in the sport or auto section of a store like Target you can sometimes find small inexpensive items for both women or men like mini flashlights, travel mugs etc.

McDonalds gift certificates (you can register them under upromise for yourself too....double bonus), Blockbuster gift certificate, a small bottle of wine/liquer, lottery scratch offs (always good), gag gifts (toilet paper .... nice big wrapped present and everyone can use it), scented car airfreshners, Glade spray (variety of flavors), Lock De Icer, Candy...........hope some of these might help.

You can get $5 phone cards
$5 blockbuster gift card
Bath & Bodyworks has the xmas scents hand soap pump for $5
the xmas small lotion tube is $4

$5 you can get a lot.

Lets see..

You can go to the local dollar store and make up a little Christmas pack with a stocking, and maybe some little things inside of it., or even an ornament.

Christmas ornaments are easy, and can be unisex.

A small unisex calendar can be had for less than $5 (you can always go with like a nice inbetween thing like scenes from the US or something like that)

You could do this for about $5 as well.
Go to your local grocery store, and get a bottle of sparkling apple cider for about $2. Then go to the dollar store, and find some 2 $1 wine glasses, or even the heavier $1 a piece ones.

You can do picture frames, portable coffee maker thing (like those stainless things).

You could also go with a Hershey's Pot of Gold or a Whitmans Sampler as well... those can be had for $5 as well.

Target has a nice selection of Christmas items, like candy tins in retro shapes..

or you can buy some headphones (for a walkman)

or you can find at a dollar store, a nice mug (they are really nice) and fill it with some candy.

Can you get a bottle of Sutter home for about $5? I may be imagining things but I thought you could get one of those for about $5.

You could also also find in the Christmas section of CD;s some Christmas music CD's for $4.99 at Target and Best Buy.

There are actually some christmas VHS tapes for 88 cents, yes 88 cents at Kmart.. like a VHS tape of animated Christmas specials.

See, there are many many things you can do with $5.

CindyB has great ideas.

I just pickedup a holiday CD at Target for 5. I was just at Best buy and saw some holiday CD's for $2.99

Anyone play tennis? Cans of balls are $3-4.

herc.

For each of my son's 4 classroom aides (it's pre-school) I spray painted a rose pot gold (they were 4/$1 at Michael's), then filled the pot with Hershey's kisses (milk, dark and mint), made rosebuds from Hershey's kisses and floral wire, stuck them in the pot and wrapped it with clear cellophane and a pretty ribbon. They were less than $5 each when it was all done, and quick and easy to make.

Believe, Do a movie theme gift. Get a certificate for 1 movie rental, 1 or 2 packages of microwave popcorn and a 2 liter of coke!

i second tuffcookie's idea... that way, 'whoever' can get a mushy movie, or a sci fi - whichever! i mean, some men love mushy, and some women love sci fi - WHATEVER! even maybe a Disney movie...

We just went to one of those last week.

We bought a box of shortbread for our $5 gift

Other ideas are...........after dinner mints, soap, photo frame, talc, hand towel, tea towels, sweets, candle (s), chocolate stocking, diary, note book, coffee mug..........possibilites are endless, it's just a matter of imagination.

You could mix & match any of the above. What we did was attach a gift tag that said Male/Female. Some gifts were more for female than male & vice versa.

Well. the Blockbuster around here is $4.29 per movie (Some Blcokbusters are 4.79 a rental)

Go to the $1.00 store, you can get frames, all kinds of little goodies!:teeth:

I consider homemade treats as gifts too. How much does it take to make a batch of Nestle Tollhouse cookies, christmas bread, or dip some pretzles in homemade chocolate. I use the butter braids dipped in the Wilton candy melts. Makes alot.

Tie in a pretty ribbon with festive cellophane.

Alot of great cute ideas here! I might have to use some for teachers.:D
Thanks!
