So i got onto the matterhorn with my sister and me and her where in the back bob sled all happy-go-lucky. I secured my self in front of her with my seat belt securely tightened. then we took off. Now, i weigh 90 pounds and for some reason i decided that after seeing the 200 pound (just a guestemate) guy in front of me put his hands up i decided that was a good idea and put my hands up too. And just like that we too a turn i flew halfway out of the sled and my sister had to catch me. In the end my only battle scar was a bruise on my elbow, i have a picture somewhere but i can't seem to find it.

I dont ever put my hands up when it says to keep your hands inside the vehicle! too risky! sorry about your bruise, thats never good! Im glad those seatbelts are adjustable! next time im there I will make sure mine is nice and snug! :thumbsup2

That ride is one of the few rides i don't put my arms up. I have never felt secure on that ride. I am so glad they are finally putting in new belts or making the cars different.

I can't ride that one. The belts are just not secure and I feel like I have been beaten with a bat at the end with the way it tosses you around. The front section is even worse, aside from the body beating, the knees have had a few whacks too.

Really? What changes? I would love to ride without being beat to a pulp.

There have been rumors floating around for a while now about the Matterhorn getting new retractable/locking seatbelts, as well as new bobsleds, one of which is shown in a picture somewhere floating around the internet. Apparently budget cuts keep preventing them from being installed. :confused3

I for one hope to see bobsleds where everyone gets their own seat (I hate the lap-sitting!), and where the seats have more padding. My poor old bones can barely handle that ride anymore! :scared:

I can see how someone could fly out of those bobsleds. Sometimes I try to put my hands up but, the ride gets jerky and I chicken out. :)

DLR expert here. . .you no longer need to ride with someone on your lap. . .its been YEARS since they made that mandatory. Secure your own damn seatbelt please. Do not leave it up to the ride monitors. And for those of you who have ever ridden space mountain at WDW. . .I don't see what you are complaining about as that is the jerkiest ride inside Disney. . .

While an expert would of course know this, the typical visitor would not ie the OP. The ride should be safe without doing research on every ride beforehand but of course she should have followed the guidlines.

The ride is safe if you read the signs and follow the rules. If you want to raise your arms on a ride do it on BTMRR outside.

I've never felt the Matterhorn was all that rough of a ride, it's a little jerky but for a coaster as old as the Matterhorn it seems pretty safe to me. Of course, I've ridden Space Mountain at MK before, so I KNOW FIRST HAND what a ridiculously jerky coaster feels like. LOL. Matterhorn is as comfortable as my backyard hammock compared to the MK version of SM. IMO.
:goodvibes

EDIT - Ooops, I guess I should have read the entire thread before posting... I see others have already mentioned the MK version of Space Mountain.

Am I imagining things, or didn't they just get new bobsleds a few years ago?

And anyone who has ridden Mullholland Madness has no right to call the Matterhorn jerky!

You do realize that the Matterhorn is safe. Young children smaller than you ride it everey day and never fly out. If it was unsafe they wouldn't be allowed to keep the ride open. If it was that easy to fly out people would be falling out left and right.

Thank god nothing more happened then just a bruise. I'm glad your okay:angel:

Although I'm fairly certain that the belt can't have been as tight as possible (something if you're sitting on part of the belt you might think it's tight until you shift, for example) for someone to nearly fly out, I also notice that the OP said:

Unless something has been "disappeared" from the thread, I don't know where those responses are coming from. :confused3

But I do agree that no one needs to sit with someone else; just say you're "one" and get your own seat!

Yeah I totally understand the OP and exactly like you said, I have been tight and secure until my boyfriend shifts or something so I do know how that feels. Of course the ride is "safe" it can be a mistake made by the person riding that puts them in danger, whether they know it or not. DBF and my DB and I were in line for Matterhorn and we each got our own seats. It's just uncomfortable to ride in someone's lap.

I see that the Matterhorn is scheduled to be down for refurb next month so maybe they will make some of these changes.
