NBC shows Titanic tonight, DH is watching & says "See, you'll never get me on a cruise!" AAAHHH! Not something I want to hear when I've booked a SURPRISE 1st ever cruise for us in January. Although if you check out the sig, you'll see I have Drama Kings at home, so hoping it was a bit of exageration!!

I'm watching it right now. I'll make sure to pay close attention at the lifeboat drill now!

Let's just say the cruise industry has learned a few things since Titanic.

Yea, that's what I said to DH. It was just ironic that it was on and him having said this, as I just booked this surprise last week.

Now this is funny, we're planning our first cruise as well...glad I didn't watch it!

We received our DCL DVD this week, and two days ago we were watching the section detailing the specs/building of the boat. I told DH "If they come on here and claim 'and it's entirely UNSINKABLE!' then I am NOT going."

Guess I had Titanic on the brain all along anyway ;)

If something did happen, does anyone think they could move the dueling pianos out on deck so we could listen and put in requests while waiting for the lifeboats?

We had a Titanic exhibit in town and I had bought some books to read to DS9 before the exhibit, we read the books and went to the exhibit, which even had a frozen wall that was the temperature of the water the night the Titanic went down. It didn't even cross my mind that I had just booked our cruise 2 months previously, until DS9 started questioning me on our route and the safety procedures. Gee, this probably wasn’t the best timing on my part :sad2: – just shows you how clueless I am.

Anyway, luckily the books we had went into a great deal of details into all the safety changes. More lifeboats, radios must always stay on, etc. Of course, the fact that we’re sailing the warm waters of Mexico and :sunny: California also helped.

Well, when you surprise him, assure him that there is NO chance of you hitting an iceberg in the Bahamas. :)

DS 9, a veteran of 4 DCL cruises, watched Titanic with me. He had seen it before. Doesn't get upset. We have discussed how many safety rules exist specifically because of what happened to the Titanic (like, uh, having enough lifeboats for everyone on board...that one still impresses me as winning the ******* award for 1912), and how radar and sonar didnt exist so they did not have the computerized map of how deep the water is at all points, and no ice in the bahamas or caribbean, and not only enough lifeboats but we have looked at them, how they are covered and motorized, ship's design, etc.

If your DH won't go, he doesn't need Titanic as an excuse. But some folks are bound and determined to live in a way that makes surprises impossible. As your deadline for full refund approaches, you need to consider blowing the lid off the surprise--and the loss of fun & whimsy is the price of DH's concern, if he is not just BS'ing you

OH, He's going!!!!! Whether he wants to or not ;)

Once he knows that it's non-refundable, I'm sure he'll change his mind

That would be impossible since dueling pianos are no longer on the ships... Guess we will just have to watch people running wild trying to find where they are supposed to be ;)

Didn't Leonardo die from the freezing temperatures??? Don't need to worry about that.....now SHARKS on the other hand....... :earseek:

Well...as long as they don't show it on the cruise...

:rotfl2:

Of course---this opens the door on the many ways you can announce the surprise---perhaps a mickey frozen in an ice cube :cold: ....

:teeth:

Although I don't think that is possible because the Dueling Pianos doesn't exist anymore. I could be completly mistaken, since I've never been on a cruise before but I thought I read they were no longer on either boat. Will someone please correct me if I am wrong?

Becky
