While we managed to visit quite a few of the restaurants last time we visited, we didn't get to NBA City or Hard Rock Cafe. Both are on our agenda for our upcoming trip, but I have read some really bad reviews about NBA. The problem is that so much of the time people post only when they have had a bad experience and don't say anything when it is good. So, knowing that the meal won't be a cheapie, I don't want to waste $100, which I expect it would cost at least that much for a family of 5, when there are sooo many choices. We are planning return visits to Margaritaville (of course) and Emeril's as well, since those were some of our favorite meals last time, but want to also visit some places we haven't been.

So, is NBA worth the money, or is it just a place to visit, maybe shop and skip the restaurant, or is it worth a meal?

Well NBA City is my favorite place to eat at City Walk. The 3 on 3 appetizer is really good. We've had the steak, ribs, pizzas and philly cheese steak. We don't seem to be able to move on to anything else on the menu we enjoy those so much.

Oh and I won't remember the name, but there is a strawberry cinnamon ice cream dessert that is AWESOME.

Go and enjoy yourself.

BTW, this review is from a basketball agnostic. I don't watch it or play it. So I'm not there for the atmosphere.

Best burger I've had at CityWalk was at NBA. And really, the atmosphere isn't that bad past the front arcade area, more subtle than, say, Margaritaville or NASCAR. Feels like a typical high-end sports bar.

we ate there in Aug during our Universal vacation and it one of the best meals we had. we also ate at Nascar which was just horrible, Islands Dining at RPR and Pastamore. I would definitely recommend NBA City.

Haven't eaten there in years but in the three times or so I've been there I don't remember really having a complaint, and I remember eating a really excellent BBQ chicken pizza.

We ate at NBA city before going to see BMG and it was delicious. We will definitely be going back in August - in fact, my DH who takes no interest in any of the planning normally specifically requested it. The General Jin's Ginger Chicken was unbelievably scrummy :thumbsup2

We have eaten at almost all the restaurants at CW and NBA City is by far my favorite place for tasty food.

We love the atmosphere at Mararitaville but honestly, I have never had an excellent meal there and we've eaten there several times. Always just acceptable and nothing more. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things. Next time I will just stick with the Big Rita...YUM!

We went to NBA a few years ago, had it on our to Do list, but DW was not keen on going. One night at IOA it rained quite heavy, and NBA was closest for getting dinner without getting soaked.
We had one of our best meals there, its now on our list everyyear , and have never been disappointed with the food or service.

jodie (y'all remember jodie:thumbsup2) turned us on to the 'best' happy hour in citiwalk @ NBA.

we drank, jr ordered a pizza & played video games

a swell evening:goodvibes

One of our best meals was at NBA when we ate this past summer. I liked the food better than Margaritaville (sorry Margaritaville fans.)
Give it try. I think you'll enjoy.

The kids and I loved NBA City when we ate there in July 2008.

Here's the part of my review with NBA City in it without the pictures.

After pool time, we relaxed in our cleaned room for 30 minutes because the typical afternoon thunderstorm had arrived. I was glad we were in a convenient spot for this one. We left the room around 4:45pm and walked to NBA City for supper. The walk from RPR to Citywalk is a pretty one and it only took us 10 minutes. I enjoyed it even though it was very humid out due to the rain.

Dude wanted to eat at NBA City because he’s a basketball fan so I figured we could try it. Since it was early, we had no wait at all. We were seated on the top level. It was still happy hour, so I was able to buy 1 beer, get another free. Dude loved looking at all the pictures on the wall and at the 2 giant TV screens right in front of us. One had basketball on and the other baseball. We decided not to get an appetizer since we had snacked in the room.

Dude chose the lasagna and I chose the pork chop. Drama Queen went for the kids hamburger. Dude ate about ½ of his lasagna before he tired of it. He said it had some strange spices. I know I make mine pretty bland so that may be why he wasn’t fond of it. I enjoyed the pork chop. I can’t remember the name but it wasn’t fatty and the fruit that was on top went nicely with it.

Drama Queen loved her kids hamburger. I didn’t bother with a picture of that because it was just like every other hamburger out there.

We liked the atmosphere in NBA City and would go back again.

My meal at NBA City was awesome. The Hard Rock Cafe has awesome food too.

Thanks for all the reviews. We really were looking foward to trying it out, but since we only will have 4 or 5 opportunities to have supper, we want to be certain we don't "waste" any. Not just the money, but when you have had an excellent day at Universal, you really want to end it with a great meal and relaxing evening on CityWalk. . . right?

I re-read Kelly Monaghan's review of the place and he gave it pretty high ratings, but it was conflicting with the reviews I read elsewhere, which were pretty much mostly negative. Again. . . most people will post negative experiences, though, and not bother to post a great experience at all.

I knew I could count on homies who routinely go there to stop in and let us know what you really thought. I think, at this point, we will keep NBA on our schedule. We really do want to eventually give every restaurant on CityWalk a try.

We thought NASCAR Cafe was good, both times we were there, so we should love NBA City. DH has agreed to give NASCAR Cafe a miss this time (:scared1:), however, so we can repeat our two favorite places (Margaritaville and Emeril's) and still try several other places we missed last time.

The arcade and other sports bar stuff won't bother us. It keeps our kids interested in what is going on so they don't get impatient and in a hurry to move along. Sometimes, though, too much stuff going on can bother DD17 and she could get upset, but I suppose we can try for a table away from the arcade and even bar area. That way she can get up and go check things out on her own terms and retreat to a "quiet corner" when she's had enough.

Is there such a critter as a "quiet corner" available? I truly don't mean someplace really quiet, as in not much noise, but an area that is not next to the bar or arcade? This does become a question/perhaps concern as I think this through. I know when we went to NASCAR Cafe, we sat at the same table both times, and it was right by the shop and the stairs AND the bar. After we came home and I was writing my trip report about the meal where DD17 ordered the HUGE salad and REFUSED to share even a little bit with anyone. . . we were thinking maybe she already felt out of control with all the activity surrounding her and not giving up her salad was her tiny way of taking back some control, even though she really did know she would never be able to eat the entire thing by herself. The second visit was much shorter, she ordered a child size meal and we had a better experience because everyone was happy.

Soooooo, in my long and rambling style, I've been processing not only reviews of the restaurant itself, but wondering if it is a good setting for our daughter as I remember other places we went and her comfort level in certain environments. Margaritaville was very busy and loud, but she sat on the way inside of the booth, and the booth backs are very high, if I recall correctly, which gave her some protection since she had a wall on her right, a high booth at her back, and two sisters between her and the outside of the booth. She was pretty "protected" there, and not so much at most of the other places, where we sat at tables in the wide open. Hhhhmmmmm. . .why didn't I think of this before. It's all coming together now (where's that dang light bulb smiley when you need it. . . . . )

I don't recall even noticing the arcade when we were there. We were seated to the left of the restaurant, almost opposite the door to the kitchen.

Glad everyone enjoyed NBA City. My brother and I have never been to Universal and want to eat there because we both enjoy basketball..glad to know that the food isnt horrible. But we come from a small country town..any food is good to us..doesnt take too much to please us!!

If you go..make sure you try a drink called The Irish Trash can I had 4 or 5 last time i was there and loved them!!

Count me in as another person who really likes NBA. I was surprised at how good it was because theme restaurants are often lacking in food quality (cough...Hard Rock...cough). I'm doing a mind blank on my favorite dish but it's a great place even if you're not into basketball.
