NBA at Walt Disney World

What'll be interesting to me is if one of those teams makes a surprise deep run, would the NBA leave them solo at Yacht Club or consolidate them to one of the other two resorts (also, we've had "Grand Destino" and "Gran Destiny" so far... any guesses on the next wrong name for this building?)

Consolidate would by my guess. They probably have a plan like after round 1 drop to 2 hotels. After round 3 to 1 hotel or something like that.

We’re supposed to be at the GF for 12 nights mid July in a Theme park view room. I’ll be very unhappy if they move us or try to. I hope Disney contacts us soon to let us know how we may be affected.

if you are in no DVC and this is true you are getting moved or cancelled.

Can’t find anything wrong with these procedures. And things are starting to make a little more sense (IE SAB being closed).

But I’m also not staying at any of those resorts, so these are just my personal feelings. Anyone staying at GFR I could see being a little ticked off since how could they possibly be “upgraded” from Grand Floridian? Unless they have enough room for the current reservations to stay at the DVC side. But I’m not sure how you avoid people staying at Beach Club or GFR (DVC) congregating in areas of the Yacht or GFR (Non DVC). I’m guessing we’re going to see rolling cancellations for those 2 resorts?

Lots of additional things being set up for players. Outdoor practice areas, convention center space, and so much more. Would be awesome to see all of this.

It does sound like the NBA and Disney are doing all they can to make the experience as good as it can be for the players. It will never be the same as being at home but they are definitely doing everything they can.

I’m surprised by that, too!! What about the DVC folks?!

I'm trying to picture how they will set up GF so that the guests at VGF don't encounter the NBA players. It's already been announced that amenities in the main GF building will be available to VGF guests (restaurants, lounge, shops). I guess the NBA players will be in the outer buildings and will be utilizing the convention center space? How do you cordon off Gasparilla's outdoor area? YC and Gran Destino (or Grand Destino/Gran Destiny, LOL!) I can see. GD is a no-brainer and, if they don't open the resort side of BC/YC it's especially easy for the NBA to be at YC (except for those going to Beaches & Cream gawking at the NBA players in SAB?!). I don't know - it will be interesting to watch as this transpires.

When do you check in? If you are checking in mid-July, you may be in the next round of guests that will be notified about their stays. Currently, all guests staying up until a check-out day of July 11 are being moved to a DVC resort or Ft. W. They haven't announced any other resorts opening at this time.

I’ll be more than a little ticked off.

I want to know if the TVs are all gonna get upgraded to those like GDT has!

Well this is a stronger indication to what's in the other threads that Disney was not intending to open the main resorts for most (if not all) of these for a while. I honestly don't believe they are choosing to not open these resorts due to the NBA but never intended to open them that soon. That means that those teams in those resorts being eliminated (which is likely for Yacht Club by mid-August) won't mean it's opening right away after that. Obviously could be very wrong on this.
