Navy pension?

My mom and I were discussing her will, etc. today. Nothing is wrong, just making sure I know where things are. Somehow it came up about pensions. She was wondering if my father should have received a pension from the Navy. I have no idea how that works!

My dad passed away in 1975. He was in the Navy for 4 years during WWII. Would he have been eligible for any benefits?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I beleive in order to get a pension you have to have served 20 years.

My dad served 8 years in the Army and isn't entitled to a pension.

In today's military (I don't know what the policy was back then) to get a pension you have to serve 20 years, or be medically retired. You get 50% of your base pay after 20 years of service, and 75% after 30.

Yes you need to serve at least 20 years in order to get a pension.

Everyone that has posted that it takes 20 years to get a pension are correct.

But, there is another program that is available called Aid and Attendance Pension that is for Veterans and surviving spouses (over 65) that are having financial difficulties paying for care or medicine. While your Mother may not qualify, I hope if anyone knows of someone in need, please pass along this information.
