I already own a car sat-nav unit (Navman ICN 501) which has UK maps installed. I am after advice about the cheapest way to get Orlando area maps onto my unit so I can take it and use it to navigate when there. Buying mapping CD for USA at £100+ in order to use a few square miles of info for two weeks seems like overkill to me. Anyone know of any other methods that exist? For example can you buy just Florida or even just Orlando area anywhere? Are there any time limited demos available anywhere? etc

Hi twid,

I have a Navman system for my iPAQ and I briefly looked into getting some maps for our last trip but just like you I found the cost to be prohibitive :(

I too would be interested in finding out if there was a more cost effective way of doing this :)

I don't have a navman [mine's a garmin], but according to http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/ , there is no legal way to get cheap maps for any satnav. It seems no-one in the UK rents them or does "cut down" versions. I suppose you could rent one from the car rental company while you're over there.

Paying £100 might seem like a bit of an 'overkill' but, if everyone has the same experience I guess you'd have no trouble selling the CD on E Bay or something afterwards? :sunny:
Just a thought ;)
I looked into hiring a pre-programmed one, from the UK for our 3 week trip and it worked out at £100, delivered to your home 48 hrs before you travel and returning it within 48 hrs of return home.
Alternatively rental companies over there are charging $9.99 / day :wave2:
