If you only plan on using the navigator app on the ship, do you have to create an account? And does everyone need their own account to be able to communicate on the ship?

The app behaves differently on the ship - I believe that if you wait until you are able to connect to the DCL WiFi, you will only have to enter your reservation information and won't need to create a full account like you would to use it at any time.

You don't need an account. You will enter your name, birthdate, and room number into the app once you're on the DCL Guest WiFi network. That links to your reservation.

This is correct. The app is completely different once you are on board. In regular life, you need to sign in with your Disney account (and my teenager isn't allowed to sign in to the DCL app with his teen account). Once on the ship, access is allowed by passenger/stateroom and the app transforms to all the activities for your sailing.
