Navigating the carpet?

My wife tried to explain this to me but I just didn't get it. Apparently just when you get out of the mid elevators on Dream (or aft and forward too) there is a star on the carpet that tells you the direction of forward/aft/port/starboard. Is this true? Anyone have a photo of it. From my recollection there was nothing marking forward from aft.

The easiest way to tell if you are heading to the front or back of the ship is to simply look down at the carpet. If the map is right side up you are walking forward; if the map is upside down you are walking aft. Fun Fact: The flags on the carpet spell out the ship’s name in ship signal flags.

This carpeting is on the stateroom decks. I'm not sure what, if any, hints there are in the carpeting in the main public areas.

Is this what you mean? I don't have a photo but I found this by searching. Since the peak of the star is pointing down, that tells you Forward is behind you, and you are walking toward the Aft. If you reversed directions and were walking in the direction of the 1 point, you would be going Forward.

On the Dream and Fantasy, the color of the inset carpet at each stairwell also indicates what part of ship you are standing.

Also for Dream and Fantasy, when you exit stairs you will be facing aft and when you exit the elevators you will be facing forward. That's usually harder to remember so it's best to look at stars and compass design on carpet as others have shown.

Ah got it now....yes the peak of the star is what I think she was referencing...

PrincessShmoo and Corfam those are both great tips! Makes me wonder why I didn't ask this before we left or while we were at sea.

Anyone know if on Magic/Wonder have the same system?

I took a tour on the Wonder and the cm told us that there is something on the carpet by the elevators/stairs that tells you what part of the ship you are on. Unfortunately I don't remember what the items on the carpet are or what they mean, hopefully someone on here will know because I wish I remembered the info.

Wow, thank you! I didn’t know that. I knew about the stars and ship wheel location key, but the colors are a new one for me. That’s going to help a lot in the future!

Yes, they do. The carpets by all the passenger cabins have the world maps (facing forward) and the point of the star facing forward. We did the "Art of the Theme Show Tour" on the Magic a few weeks ago (and did it on the Wonder 2 yrs ago). They gave us this tip...of course it was the end of the cruise both times we did the tour, lol, so they said 'this would have been more helpful at the start of your cruise...but now you know!'

As Geomom stated, the star & world map pattern are on the Magic and Wonder too.

For the carpet color indicating location (foward, mid, aft), I haven't found that Magic and Wonder have this feature. At least it hasn't been obvious to me.

On Magic and Wonder, the stairs & elevators orientation aren't consistent across Forward, Mid, and Aft locations like the Dream & Fantasy. Orientation upon exit at Forward and Aft elevators & stairs is the same, but Mid is different. This makes it even more imperative to follow stars & world map carpet indicators when exiting stairs or elevator areas. No big deal, but I thought I would mention it.

I had no idea about the carpets. What a great little Easter egg! I also believe the stairs point in the direction of the bow.

If you get on board early (early PAT) and can get on one of the ship tours, they tell you about the carpets ( I think she said 62 different carpets from Palo/Remy to Guest services desk (that's where the tour de carpet ended).

I used to work on ships (not cruises) so I usually just looked at room numbers. LOL The carpets are cool though, I'd never noticed!

I think I remember hearing/reading something before too about the little mail ornament outside of the staterooms being different depending on the side of the ship (port/starboard) but I can not remember what the difference is. I have always stayed on the port side which had fish mail clip ornaments.

On the Dream and Fantasy there are fish on the port side, starboard side has seahorses(I think it's seahorses could be starfish, we've always been on port). Magic and Wonder just has fish on both sides.

On the Dream class ships, the mail holder differs, depending on what side of the ship you're on. Port side fish, fantasy 2014 9098 04007 P1040299 1500.jpg
