HELP i am desperate i know this is a horrible subject but i need some ideas. I have 2 four month old kittens who are good most of the time but lately one or both of them have started doing number 2's to put it politely down the side of the tv stand. I have put vinegar down selotape on the floor but have caome home today to it again has any one else had this problem and managed to stop it.

Have never actually had this problem but its apparently due to geography, i.e. once they've done it there once they'll do it again, can you put something in their way?

Have you seen them doing it??

Also do they have/use a litter tray normally??

Are you able to shut them out of this room whilst you are not around??

Pets continue to eliminate in the area because they can still smell the residue (their noses are about 1000 times more sensitive than ours are).

You can purchase a special cleanser at the pet store which contains enzymes which break down urine and feces. The enzymes actually eat the ammonia, and whatever else the waste is composed of. At the Petsmart, they have a few kinds. The brands are Nature's Miracle and Petzyme. Since you're in the UK, I don't know if you have a Petsmart, or those brands of cleanser. But what you want to look for is the cleanser with the enzymes that breaks down the waste. Once it works, there will not be anything left for your pets to smell, and that should keep them from eliminating in that spot again.

never had this problem myself but a friend had a similar problem, she moved the litter tray to the area affected and after a couple of days began to gradually move the litter tray away back in the direction from whence it came and then eventually back to its original position - this worked fine for her as the kitten started to use the litter tray and as it was gradually moved, the kitten carried on using it until it was relocated in its original place!!

Hope you find a solution

I had this problem when my cats were small. I used an odour eliminator spray which I bought at the Vets surgery and encouraged the suspect to go in our garden. She isn't the brightest moggie in the world and just seemed confused about where it was ok to go and where it wasn't! She also used to spray urine before we had her speyed - unusual for a female and I thought that we might not be able to keep her. However patience and the enzyme spray did the trick and she never makes mistakes now.

Regards
Rosie

they have got 3 litter trays in various places and use them ninety nine percent of the time so they know what to do. Where they are doing it is at the side of the tray the trays are cleaned out daily so thats not the excuse

we have had three kittens, and two of them have been a bit odd in the toilet department!

Firstly, make sure that the litter trays are no where near their food.. they dont like to use them if they are apparently.. (can we blame them!)
Secondly.. get some "cat off" spray from your vet.. I use " commas" as I cant remember the name. It involves spraying the area every day but it did work for us.

Lastly, sometimes when cats feel threatened in some way by another cat, they do this sort of thing... have they just started going outside? or is one of them more dominant than the other?

They DO grow out of it... but its frustrating at the time isnt it! BUT they are sooooo cute!

Thanks every one for your help i bought some spray to break down the odour. While i was sraying it Akai came by me i had some on my fingers so i put it under his nose and he ran off so hopefully that will work.
