I just picked up some Nature's Own Low Carb bread. It has 7 grams of carbs and 2 of those are dietary fiber!!! I had my first piece of toast this morning since I restarted atkins 3 months ago!!!! Yum! It was soooooo good.
Julie

P.S. I just went gold!!! YEAH!!!!!

A new clippie??!!! Awesome!!!! Congratulations and what a beautiful color on you!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Congratulations on your new clippie!! :sunny:

I buy Natural Ovens bread - I think it's 4-5 net carbs per slice too! I love it toasted with peanut butter!

Ok, so what's the secret to eating lo-carb bread *successfully*??? I bought some the other day - had some as toast w/p.butter yesterday morning, and toast with jam today....both times I felt so SICK after I ate it :( honestly - it was like an instant case of stomach flu! I am drinking PLENTY of water, and am used to a high-fiber diet....I'm not sure I want to risk eating another slice of it! Am I missing something here????

Check the ingredients list for sugar alcohols. There are a bunch of different ones but they all end in -ol, like malitol, mannitol, xylitol, etc.

Some people are particularly sensitive to one or more sugar alcohols. The interesting thing is that malitol might affect me but I'm fine with xylitol (just an example) while you may be just the opposite.

If you're sensitive to a particular sugar alcohol, it will cause you gastrointestinal distress - nausea, gas, bloating, cramping, diarrhea, etc - even in small quantities and usually you are affected pretty quickly.

Most people cannot tolerate a large amount of any sugar alcohols. Low-carb candy is well-known for this. If you eat too much of it, you WILL have the above symptoms.

I'm guessing you're very sensitive to the particular sugar alcohols in this brand of low-carb bread. Maybe a different brand that uses a different sugar alcohol may not affect you this way.

Let me know if that's the case - I'm curious! :D

I hope you recovered quickly! ::yes::

Robin, thanks for posting the link!!

Well, so much for my sugar alcohol theory! :p

Do you tolerate soy well in any other form? Some people's systems do NOT do well with soy.

If not the soy, then possibly one of the "dough conditioners"??

Boy, this could be tough to track down!

I usually do fine with soy....I bought the Arnold brand "Carb Counting - Multi-grain" bread. I read the label and nothing *stands out* as being unusual to me.

Maybe I'll give it one more try....maybe just 1/2 a slice tomorrow just as a test.....

Thanks for all the congrats :) It does feel good to see that gold!!!

As for the bread upsetting the stomach, Mine did fine with it. I just had one slice of buttered toast with my hot cereal this morning after my workout. Maybe a different kind will work better for you.

Julie,

Congrats on going GOLD! I just got mine this morning too!

There's a deli here, Chomipes, that makes low carb bread and it's definately better than some I've tried. I really like to have an 'over-easy' egg once and awhile, and toast is a mandatory thing (for me) with a runny egg.::yes::

Just wanted to congradulate you on your GOLD Tag!!! And Ibounce as well..

YIPEE!!! Tigger's Jumping!

Thanks guys! And congrats Ibounce!!!!! That is the best feeling, isn't it!!!! I saw in your getting to know you post we have a lot in common!!! I am reading Outlander for about the 10th time right now!! LOL
