Congratulations Dave!!!!:cool1:

Sending you speedy thoughts now!!! Hope I'm not too late! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Yeah Dave:cheer2: !!!! You truly are an inspiration. Congrats on your awesome finish. I am thinking of you today and I know you'll rock the 5k:woohoo: .

We are home now. It feels good to be back where we can savor the memories of the weekend at leisure. It's been quite a time. I'd love to do it again and I think the 2011 Huston games will be my next one.

Ok on to today's 5K race.

The race was in mass so there was a lot of elbowing at the start. Once the crowd thinned out it was fine. There were 2 hills but we hit them 4 times so the whole race was up and down. There were 3 turns so the judges could catch people breaking technique. They did catch a lot of people especially on the down hills.

I was hitting each K at right about 7 min so I was hoping for a sub 35 min finish. But the hills started getting me to toward the end. I finished in 35:20 which was good enouth for 8 th place and a goodie since they award the first eight in each age division.

The final tally was 2 races and 2 PRs so I know I gave full measure. This was like the reguular Olympics where you have a lot of good athletes and some awesome ones. One awesome 50 year old guy walked the 5K in 26 min and a few seconds. About 4 guys and gals did 28 min or better.

It was an experience and I loved it and I'm a little sad it's over. I will surely be a better athlete from what I've learned from the others and what I've learned about myself.

I have a few local races to to between but now I can start really getting excited about the ToT adventure and hanging with the WISH team.

Thanks for listening this weekend, I know I've been tunnel visioned and haven't kept up with what you guys are up to. I'll start catching up on y'all now that I have some kick back time. I don't have to go back to work till the 5th.

Thanks so much for the support everyone. I was proud to wear my WISH colors for the events. A lot of athletes had the names of their club and team names on their shirts. I thought mine was the coolest.

The whole experience was positive in every way. It was different in a way from what I expected. Every race I've ever done they had lots of food to snack on for the athletes and volunteers. This was bare bones and all business. They had plenty of water and good judging but no food tables. A big plus was the fast results. At the state games we had to wait forever to get the results and the medal presentations. Here you know within a few min where you were in the standings.

I guess when you have races where you can be disqualified they have to keep a business like atmosphere. It was a good professional setting with good officials who knew what they were doing.

When I was reading up on the dailies yesterday after I came back, I saw the flack about that aweful advertisement from Pearlism. They need to remember that even though an athlete is going slow doesn't mean they are not giving it all they have.

A ninety year old man was racing yesterday, he was on pace to finish the 5K in about 50 min. He tripped and fell shortly before the finish. A volunteer helped him up then he took off for the finish line, blood streaming down his arms and legs where he was cut up. He crossed the line head held high and a huge smile on his face. At the medal presentation he was smilling even bigger, bandages and all when they put that gold medal around his neck.

Maybe these shoe companies should let John Bingham do some advertising for them. He is a hero of mine to. We need to all remember that speed is not an indication of the persons heart and courage.

Again thanks for the wonderful support and allowing me to represent the fantastic WISH team. Erica will be processing the pictures today and hopefully by this evening I will be able to post them. She is rebelling this morning and sleeping in. She has had to get up early every morning for a week and she is not a morning person.

Wow Dave your story of the 90 year old man in the 5k is inspiring. It made me tear up. The determination to be out there (shoot to be alive and able to do a 5k at that age is amazing!!) That brand is just killing itself by shutting out the millions of non elite athletes. Oh well there are plenty of companies out there that are happy to have people like us buy from them.
