I wanted to keep everyone who is interested updated on how the adventure is going.
Day One!
We drove up to Louisville from Bowling Green. That was a pleasent uneventful 150 miles. Then things started to come apart. I'm a organization freak when it comes to traveling, so today was hard on the ego.
To start with we went to the wrong Hotel, there must be 25 darn Marriots in Louisville. We got directions off the internet. We parked in the parking garage, got our stuff and went to the frount desk. They had no record of our reservation. It turned out our hotel, same darn brand, was 2 blocks up the road.
I screwed something up because when I registered I went to the Games web site and registered at the hotel which was supposed to be event headquarters. How I managed it I don't know but we are as far as we can get from the events and still be in the same city. The bad thing is there are 5 hotels across the street from the event area. I think some how I got in the wrong Marriot.
We finally got checked in and decided to take the event bus to the Expo, it did stop at our hotel. However, the schedule said it stopped every 20 min. We waited an hour and the driver said next time just call my cell phone since I sometimes go other places or get caught in traffic. We are taking the car from now on.
We got to the Expo and I signed in and got my race pass, I get my # the morning of the event. Which is tomorrow at 10AM Eastern, so send your thoughts of strength then. Any way the Expo. I'm used to expos being running stuff, Cliff bars and stuff like that. Well since this was the Senior games, it was all things like health care plans, bone density screenings and such. I think our goody bad has a sample of Ensure in it.
We were going to eat there but the food prices were unreal, $8.50 for a BBQ sandwich, not including fries,( which I wouldn't eat any way) and a drink. We went to Joe's Crab Shack afterwards and spent about the same for a really nice dinner. You did get to listen to Bruce Jenner speak while you ate.
We hopped a bus, not ours but he was willing to take us back anyway. We got back to the Hotel and picked up our car to search for the U of L track where tomorrow's race is going to be held. We found it pretty easy, with only one trip up a oneway street. So we decided to see if we could find the park where the 5K will be.
We asked a street guard, still not sure what that is, but he looked official, how to get there. He said, I swear, "You really can't get there from here". So we will try again tomorrow after the race to find the park.
Thanks for listening and I'll report how tomorrow goes after it's over.
