National rates down-mid June

Hello everyone:

I'm not having much luck. I'm an Emerald Club member, needing to rent a car for 10 days from Sanford and I have tried both codes (6600422 and 5007125) with the $35 coupon with no luck. I'm finding rates for $401-base rate. Hmmm...:scratchin:scratchin

I am in the same boat. I can't get a cheaper rate for Sanford either. Maybe it's just MCO.

I am confused as to how you are getting these rates? I tried online and by phone. No deals! I need car from 6/28-7/8 and am getting prices of over $300 every way.Used emerald club, walmart code,$35 off code????How EXACTLY are you getting good prices as listed above?

since they do not provide you the information when they mention their good rates, such as time frame and number of days rented it is not hard to get CONFUSED

the national site seems to have a good rate if you book for june 17 or earlier and are renting 9 days at least

eg

1) Time & Distance ($109.72/Week) $109.72
(2) Extra - Time & Distance ($15.67/Day) $31.34
Discount ($14.11)
Discount Coupon Accepted ($35.00)
Contract ID 5007125
Inclusive Rate Items
Guaranteed Base Rate Included
Unlimited Miles Included

Tire/battery Fee .02/day $0.18
License Recoupment Fee .46/day $4.14
Sales Tax (6.50%) $8.85
Subtotal $53.10

.
Calculate Estimated Total Estimated Total $145.05

doing the same ressie june 17 - 26 the rate becomes

Estimated Total $319.27

thus, it is a matter of the dates you are trying, they are beyond the recent good base rates that others have been posting

it would be better if posters of "good rates" at least put in their dates of rental and other parameters that are getting them the good returns....to help others avoid the "confusion" you are feeling when you try to get the same rate they have mentioned in their posts

like right now i could post my rate has gone down to 128.57 ( i really have this rate showing on my screen right now ) for my upcoming June rental, but without telling you the dates, the contract id and coupon code used along with special parameters like it has to be a 9 day rental at least, you could try forever to get the same rate without "success"

Thanks for the info.I guess I should wait 2 weeks and then try since we aren't going until 6/28.Wish me luck!I currently have a price of $292.18 with budget for the dates 6/28-7/8

You are too far out of the discount timeframe. Generally the cheapest rates are withinin a 2 week window. You'll have to wait until next Tuesday to try your dates. My date is July 18, so I'll be checking back the beginning of July. Glad to see some decent rates now.

AH! Now I get it. We'll be there 6/28 - 7/7, and right now base rate for a week is $355. Add the two additional days, taxes and fees -- we're at $477. Sucks lemons. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rates drop in a couple of weeks.

I hate to mix threads but Alamo rates have also gone down and there is a $25 off rental valide through 6/30/09. The coupon code is AD6974JDM. I also used the Entertainment book code.

I was just playing around with our dates and for a 7 passenger mini van it came up $307.93/day $1847.58/ week - the total would be $2253.80 (the discount code took off $615.86) :rotfl::rotfl:
The dates were June 29-July 8, I already have an 8 passenger mini van rented through alamo for the first part of our stay but I was just looking for another van as I'm worrying about relying on disney transportion, but that quote definately makes all the other ones I've been getting look like a steal! For that price I will happily wait in line for busses! :rotfl2:

Minnie - Try this:

Maybe separate your rental into two different reservations. Have the first one with pick-up at MCO, drop-off at Magic Kingdom Car Care Center. Have this first part be just a couple of days long, maybe two or three. If you have any Free Days credits or coupons, use these credit/coupons on this end of your vacation (where the Free Day will be worth more). Renting from MCO is almost *always* more expensive than renting from MKCCC.

Then have the second start at MKCCC (same time as the first one ends) with drop-off at MCO.
Put in the Emerald Club code.
Use the $35 off coupon.

Price all your options out. I've just gotten a WEEK from MKCCC right before your timeframe. We are there June 20-29 total. My first two days are almost free (using 2 Credits we had on our account), then we're turning around and picking up at MKCCC for June 22-29 using the EC discount and the $35 off.

Splitting the car reservation into 2 separate parts lets us use credits/coupons/free days/etc. all on the same vacation.

Our week is now down to $208.73 for a Pontiac G-6 AND that includes all taxes/fees/crud/etc. And for that price, I'm willing to drive over to the MKCCC, exchange cars and maybe spend an hour instead of $500+.

Keep checking "Mousesavers" and checking the "Specials To Go" on National's website.
Keep checking the rates even on the day you depart. I've had rates drop the morning we LEAVE! Make sure you get the new ressie saved into the system before you cancel the older/more expensive car ressie. Print the newer/valid car ressie out and BRING IT WITH YOU (in case the desk folks can't believe the rate you're getting). Also, MAKE SURE to bring all coupons that you need for each leg of your two reservations.

Good luck,
agnes!

I am happy that some can benefit from these savings.
Keep checking. :wizard:

Oh, and don't always assume that the smaller cars are cheaper, that's what i used to do. The rates all depend on what's selling-out the quickest. Check *everything* out - you might be able to "upgrade" from a compact, say, to a standard (pay the same price or even *cheaper* for a larger car than for a smaller one).

And if you are at a counter location and they say "would you like to upgrade for just $ extra?" say no, because chances are they don't have the car-class in stock that you have the reservation for. If they don't have what you reserved, then you get the next available car class that's better (for the same price).

agnes!

Thanks all! I got a full size for $166 (includes taxes, etc)

One question - I really wanted a mini van - I am Emerald member, but I've never used the EA before. Can anyone explain - Can I just take any car I want if larger ones are available? Also, we aren't getting in until 9 pm - Is there any hope to get a larger vehicle?

You need to book intermediate to use Emerald Aisle. With Emerald Aisle, you can take any size car parked on that row (not a larger car parked elsewhere). If you happen to see a larger car parked on the aisle, you can ask an attendent if you can take it even though your reservation was not Emerald Aisle. It worked for us one time.

I'm sorry, but I still don't understand - what does book "intermediate" mean?

We'll be fine with what I booked - I just always worry we need more trunk space for luggage

If you're an EA member you are required to book an intermediate (mid-size) car, not a full size car. Then as a member you agree to accept an intermediate size car, BUT when you choose a car from the Emerald Aisle lane you are allowed to choose any car on that one lane. "Sometimes" there are some SUVs and minivans, but be warned, you must be willing to accept an intemediate size car if that is all there is. I rented in January and May and both times the only cars available on the Emerald Aisle were intermediate cars and maybe one full size. If you book a "full size" car, you will go to the full size lane and choose a full size car from there -- this is called "Emerald Reserve". It is not Emerald Aisle.
