National Ranking of each of the parks

I wonder if executive bonuses are figured based on percentages of attendance increases?

If you go to the Themed Entertainment Associations site at http://www.teaconnect.org/pdf/2011Report.pdf you can get he complete current report on theme and water parks both worldwide and by region.

Note the report is 52 pages long, but does include photos and discussion as well as the tables.

I'm subbing....

Interesting to see the numbers.

I'm wondering how the numbers were derived ? Maybe OP or PP's have already stated this.

But it is hilarious to me how many people don't know what park they have visited.

I'm still trying to explain to my co-worker who visited last year that the park he FINALLY Visited ... after my ad nauseum recommendations.... was NOT UNIVERSAL ! (DHS)

And my friend called me today and told me she may not be a DISNEY fanatic like me. (They only visited US/IOA! never stepped foot on Disney! )

So hoping the numbers above are reflected via turnstiles and not Q/A.

LOL

Hugs
Mary

I hope HS adds some new rides along with AK, Heck I would love to see World Showcase get a few more rides!

I know that there's no way to know but I wonder how high DHS and AK would be if people didn't purchase multi-day passes. I'd like to think that they'd still do well but who knows.

Well. DCA just set its single day attendance record Saturday and beat it Sunday. So the new stuff out there is well attended. Expect a jump from them this year and next.

Expect Universal Studios numbers to soar with the expansion of Harry Potter into the Studios side of the park.
For Universal's sake I should hope so. USO still isn't back to it's 2008 attendance of 6,231,000 despite any spillover effect from Potter at IOA next door.

THAT is a great question.

I'm pretty positve that it will attract 187,000 more visitors more than it did in 2008;) Universal will never be Magic Kingdom or Disneyland, that is a given. Either way, Disney can't be TOO proud that the dropoff between MK and DHS is about 7 million people considering they have such a "captive" audience can they? :confused3

AK is my least favorite of the 4 parks - Epcot being my favorite, especially for the F&G Festival which we attend. I like the FOTL, Flights of Wonder, Nemo Musical and then I'm "out of there" :lmao:

Go animal kingdom! I love AK and hate when people "skip" this park or consider it a half day park. This park is really underrated and I am so happy it has done so well :)

To each their own. I'm just very surprised at the numbers.

I wonder what the number is of repeat guests? I think that's where you are going to find the brand loyalty. Just curious.

My sister and her kids love Harry Potter. And they were disappointed in the park. They said it was too small.

Did they just do the Harry Potter section of the park? or the whole park? Size wise, IOA is comparable to several of the Disney parks (I think only AK and EPCOT dwarf it). If they just did the Harry Potter section, That would be like just doing Adventureland at the MK.

It's not the least bit surprising. Disney has the capacity to handle way more guests than anyone else. They are by far the highest profile, spend the most money on promotions, and offer the most to do of any theme park destination. It's the "grandest" theme park experience you can have. Universal and Seaworld's goal is only to have you take a day out of your Disney vacation to visit their parks, not to try to beat them. It's never going to be possible.

DCA set another record attendance number Tuesday.

It has about the same acreage as MK believe it or not.

No audience is captive. Anyone can choose to go wherever they want. It's not like Disney is putting a gun to anyone's head. MK is a two day park. DHS is a one day park. Hence the drop off. If I were Disney, I'd be worried about the Epcot numbers more than DHS or AK. And you missed my point regarding USO. Heretofore, there hasn't been much of a spillover effect from Harry next door at IOA to USO considering the latter isn't back up to attendance it had 4 years ago.

There is a definite spillover starting last month since the fireworks show has started. Univ. studios has been closing later than IOA for almost a month. The crowds are leaving IOA to see the fireworks and the new parade at the studios. There is a large crowd at the studios turnstiles now almost every night. I suspect that the executives also noticed the lack of spillover and have now taken steps to attract more people to the studios. Despicable Me opened, a new parade, and new night-time show have all been added. I bet next year shows an increase of attendance at the Studios.

I think they did the whole park but they said the potter section was small and not that great.

It is small per JK Rowling's request. However, not that great is surprising since the area routinely gets accolades. But to each their own.

A little surprised at AK being ahed of DHS, but Imhope it does get Disney thinking about adding something to help DHS...I also enjoy Universal, but there is something lacking there, it's appeal, seems less deep than the Disney parks...not that there is not nice theming and some great rides, but just feels like after you scratch beneath the surface it seems more gilded than golden.
