national question (about credit cards)

So I copied this from the national web site.

• Use this section to add a new credit card to your profile. Listed credit cards must be in the same name as the Emerald Club member.
• National Car Rental does not accept debit cards at the time of rental. Saving debit card information in your profile may cause your rental to be cancelled or voided.

So I cant pay for/book a rental w/my visa debit bank card, although the bank tells you it can be used everywhere visa is used
I am trying not to use ANY credit cards on this trip. so does this mean I can't rent a car?

You cannot hold a reservation with a debit card. You will need to use your major credit card to hold the reservation and then you can pay with your debit card when you return the car. National does let you use a debit card if you have a round trip ticket but you will need to go the the rental counter.

Most of the time you will need a deposit if using a debit/credit and they usually run your credit. Like the previous poster stated you can reserve with a credit card and pay with your debit/credit card.

When you put your cc # in and book a reservation they run a $1 charge to make sure the card is good. As the other poster said if you have proof of a round trip airline ticket they will let you use your debit card at the time of pickup. If you do not then you have to use a credit card. I was behind a guy renting local having a fit that he could not use his debit card. They kept pointing to the big sign stating about the use of debit cards and he finally pulled out a cc.

Just a clarification, there are no charges for a reservation. They may run an authorization, but not a charge, there is a difference.
