National Emerald vs Hertz #1 Gold at MCO- Which is better?

Hi;
If you have used both companies, can you please share your experiences and preferences of one over the other?
If I understand correctly, both allow you bypass the counter, with the difference being that National allows you to pick any car in the isle while Hertz 'reserves' a car for you in the isle?

I'm not sure that's true. I don't remember having to use the counter the first time I used National.

OP...I've only used National Emaerald Aisle at MCO and it is seemless and very efficient. It usually only takes me 20-25 minutes to get off the plane and leave the airport in my renatl car. (I never check my luggage...just carry on). Have you joined the Emerald Aisle at National? There is a free link on mousesavers.com to join.

A first rental from Hertz requires the counter. National, no.

I rented once from Hertz at MCO, quite a few years ago. I did because the rate was, with discounts, coupons, etc, about $10 a day for a full size. THe taxes and fees were quite a bit more than what Hertz was getting out of the deal. The car and service were fine. Only downside was it is located off site from the airport, requires a shuttle. All my other rentals over the years have been National and Alamo, same company, service, cars, etc. Whoever is less expensive for a given trip gets the rental. I have never had a problem, priced are generally very reasonable, leaving and return are both seamless, takes but a few minutes.

Hertz is onsite now, just like the rest of the major agencies.

In regards to the OP, I don't think National EA or Hertz Gold are bad choices for run of the mill vehicles (ie. you want a midsize or fullsize), but where Hertz Gold wins is in Prestige and Fun Collection vehicles which are Make/Model reserveable, so you get the exact vehicle you booked. These collections come with a price though, but if you want to drive a certain vehicle and they offer it in one of these collections then Hertz is the better choice.
