Just to let everyone know...I just returned from our trip and even though I did NOT make my reservation as an Emerald Club member (I joined months after I made the reservation) we were able to have the second driver free.
I had emailed National to ask if this was possible and they had emailed me back that NO it was not.
I went ahead and joined (for free - from Mousesavers site) anyway.
I showed them my Emerald Club card and both my husband and myself showed them our drivers license and no one at the airport had a problem with it.
