Has anyone else received this post card from National??

They are saying that starting July 13, National may charge 50 cents a day for airline miles awards? What is this all about??
Does this mean that if you want to use your rental dollars toward your ffm membership, you'll now be charged a daily fee?

Yep, that is what it means. Of course, you do have the option of not getting miles credit. This is standard with a few other rental agencies.

it only states they are charging for USA airlines...does this mean my Air Canada points will continue to be added no charge?

There is some type of tax involved when you get FF from rental car. I think National may already be charging for Air Canda--aleady so many fees the extra .50 may get lost.

National collects a Frequent Flyer Tax Recoupment Surcharge to cover the federal tax on the cost of the miles awarded at the time of rental.

From the travel partner section on Air Canada FF.

Gail--Link doesn't work, that's why I did the quote.

Bummer!!!!!

I found more and since the link to it does not work, I will just copy and paste it:

Frequent Flyer Service Charge

Beginning 7/13/03 National will introduce a Frequent Flyer Service Charge in the amount of $.50 per day for qualifying rentals in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico when renters choose to receive Frequent Flyer miles or credits. This service charge is being collected by National in order to offset the administrative and program costs associated with participation in Frequent Flyer programs.

This service charge applies to the following programs:

Alaska Airlines - Mileage Plan
America West Airlines - FlightFund®
Continental Airlines - OnePass®
Delta Air Lines - SkyMiles®
Frontier Airlines - EarlyReturns®
Midwest Airlines - Midwest Miles
United Airlines - Mileage Plus®

The Frequent Flyer Tax Recoupment Surcharge (7.5% Federal Excise Tax on the cost of miles awarded at the time of rental) will remain in effect for qualifying rentals in the US when renters choose to receive miles from American and Northwest Airlines.

FYI,
Hertz has been charging for a while.

I left it on my Hertz card, but am not taking the option on my National. you get so few miles for rentals that it does not seem worth it!
