National Car Rental and Debit Cards

I went in to update my credit card info with my debit card and the web site says "National Car Rental does not accept debit cards at the time of rental. Saving debit card information in your profile may cause your rental to be cancelled or voided." I was wanting to use my debit card instead of a credit card, but now I'm afraid to. I got such a great rate and I don't want my reservation to be cancelled. What should I do? Should I just keep my profile the same?

You will need to leave a credit card as the "depost" for the car, but you can pay with the debit card when you return the car. This will protect the car company if there is any damage to the vehicle. If the card is a "platinum" type Visa or MC card you will almost always have the liability insurance coverage for rental cars anyway. Be sure to check with the card issuer to be certain and for limits. Also check with your auto insurance agent for thier coverages as well.

I think I would call them and check. It does say on my rental aggreement, that a debit card can be used as long as you have a round trip ticket, at pickup.

I agree. I even called National (because this is a new policy for them) to make sure that this applies to MCO because the website says that not all National locations are participating. They assured me that all Orlando locations will accept a debit card to reserve, as long as you can show proof of round trip travel.
