Here's my experience with calling the 1-800 to book a rental car. After checking the internet for a full size car for 1 week in October (using DC discounts) I got a rate of $119. I prefer booking on the phone so I called and gave the agent the same codes and she gave me a rate of $164!!! After questioning her about the difference she agreed to give me the $119 rate. She said that's a really good rate for 1 week. Well, I wonder how often they do this to customers. I think it always pays to check the internet first.

The airlines now disclose (recorded announcement when you're on hold) that cheaper fares may be available on the internet.

I booked our car rental with national online using DC contract code and a coupon,
we got a great rate and a confirmation online, which i printed out. We get to MCO
on 8/26 to get the car and they have no record of it in their system, even though we
had a confimation # etc...even though I rechecked the ressie online the day we left
and it was still there, no problem. It took almost an hour to finally get the car, then when we
brought it back, they STILL didn't even know we had the car! They said it was not in the system. They finally straightened it out but they had no idea what happened...I suggest that
if u book online u call them as well to confirm so u don't waste your vacation at the car rental
counter coming and going
