the national base rates seem to be down....

however, you cannot change or modify your reservation if you are currently using the online 30$ off coupon.....

you get the new base rate but you lose the 30$ off due to capacity control ....on all classes of cars listed within the coupon

perhaps some others will want to try modifying their reservations just to see what happens.....but do not follow through with the final Keep Original or Keep Modified Screen

30$ coupon is capacity controlled until december 1

So is the $20 entertainment book coupon.

this strange ... the OP was posted twice ... I was very confused at first, because I thought our conversation from last night was gone. Then I scrooled down the page and found it, LOL

I think any coupon that is $$ off or a free day is under some sort of capacity control. The only ones I've gotten to work are upgrades, and my own free day coupon that I earned and is attached to my account.

I thought i was doing something wrong i couldn't get the 30 off coupon to work or the 20 from the entertainment book only my free day earned thru national, but if I make a reservation using my free day, if i wanted to check to see if the price went down i couldn't put in my free day as it is being used on a reservation already so would I just check to see if the base rate is down any suggestions?

I just made a reservation for the first week of December. Last time I checked, it was over $200. It's now $164 with the Emerald Club code and the $30 coupon. Intermediate, EA.

I never modify my reservations when the price goes down. I rebook and then cancel the original. Usually I rebook at least 4 or 5 times. My reservation in late April went from $184 down to $105 about a week before (same deal, EC code and $30 off).

that's exactly what I do - with the exception of the rate I have now. I'm using my free day from my account, and I have a good rate. I don't want to mess around with cancelling it and rebooking to discover that the rate isn't as good as what I had.

I suppose I could check the base rate, which will give me an idea whether or not it's worth it to cancel and rebook, though. I just thought of that.

the free day coupon will usually be 1/7 of the base price after discount
eg base rate is 184, the discount is 20 which brings the rate to 164 which divided by 7 comes to an additional 23.40....so in this case the free day is worh 23.40 not as good as the 30$ coupon code BUT they are not allowing the code now until december 1

hopes this helps you decide

ah debbie....

you hit the booking and/or returning times on the "magic" half hour at national which is cheaper then doing the same thing on the whole hour....the base rate is about 10$ higher on the full hour...

if you check your ressie on the full hour it would come out to about 171$

You're right - it's 12/1 at 3:00pm to 12/7 at 12:30pm.

Well thanks for explaining that $30 coupon thing. I've been wracking my brain this whole week trying to figure out why I couldn't apply it to my reservation.

Now I know its because my dates are Nov 30-Dec 8.

So I have a $20 coupon and EA for those 8 days. My grand total for the National ressie is $178.92.

I didn't think that was too bad for 8 days...around $22 per day. And there's time for that base rate to go down some more.
