Over here we now also have a proposal to sing our Anthem in a different language: In Turkish!!!
As I stated on the tread about the American Anthem sung by artists of Hispanic origin in Spanish, I wouldn't have a problem with that. Neither would I have a problem with our Anthem sung by a popgroup in another language.
But guess what?
One of our politicians of the Green Party made that an official proposal!! He wants the anthem to be played in Turkish at official ceremonies to facilitate integration of the Turkish immigrants. WTH!!!!
IMHO integration means that the foreigners are integrated into society and not vice-versa.
If a Turkish popgroup wants to sing it in Turkish - go ahead!!
Official ceremonies - NO WAY!!!! :scared1:

BTW, that guy - who is also backed by the Liberal Party in that issue- claimed to have been inspired by what just happened in the USA - Muchas gracias, amigos ;)

I don't agree with Dubya about much, but he was correct about the National Anthem. No one should mess with the words, and it should be sung in English.

Just curious, was he correct the other day when he said it should be sung in English only, or was he correct when he invited people to sing it in Spanish during campaign events and at his inauguration?

The National Anthem is for America and isn't english the language here?

are the other countries having their anthems in english because english speaking people live there- NO , so why do we have to change

But the Spanish one changed the words, so, technically, it's just a new song sung to the old melody.

I wouldn't have a problem with people singing it in different languages on their own time. I've sung X-Mas songs in Italian when I was a member of a group in high school that travelled to nursing homes during the X-Mas season.

That Spanish song wasn't the National Anthem, it was just a song someone wrote to the tune. If it's good enough for Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer.....
