Nathan's Magical Wish Trip- Pre-trip report

you can tell him he can play for Jonah if he wants an audience. That is so cool that he is so dedicated. I was never the dedicated to my clarinet or the piano.

becca

He might just do that-lol! William wants to bring his trombone- not because he needs to practice, just because he loves to play. Yeah, I am NOT bringing a trombone on the plane!

Well, it is midnight, but David and I just finished our WISH shirts- we did 6 wish shirts and 2 with Nathan's name in Mickey letters ( I wasn't sure if I wanted it on gray or red, so I did both. I figured that gave me a "practice" one). It only took us about 3 hours to do them- well, that was after a little misunderstanding. David thought I had decided not to do a wish shirt but just do a "Nathan" shirt for everybody. Ummm, not sure where he got that idea. Luckily he had just printed 4 "Nathan"s before I figured out the mistake and we still had just enough transfer paper to do our WISH shirts. I think they turned out pretty nice. I'm going to let Nathan wear the gray Nathan to school on Friday. I will try and post pictures of them tomorrow.

Also, David's parens came over this evening after church. They gave each of the boys $50 to buy a special souvenir at Disney World! I did explain to William that colored cotton candy was not a "special" souvenir-lol!

I guess I really should go to bed now!

They would probably love for him to play it for people, ya know!

I am so, so excited for you guys! I miss Disney soooo much!! You guys are going to have a great time!

Take lots of pics and have a BLAST!

Okay- i really need to be finishing packing, but here I am on the computer! I can't help myself!

I've been thinking about this whole breakfast thing. My kids LOVE cold pizza for breakfast so maybe we'll order a pizza every night and put in the frig and eat it for breakfast! Cold pizza and ice cream for breakfast! How often do you get to do that!

I just realized that I packed up the shirts we made before we took pictures! You will just have to wait until I post our trip pictures!

Oh, I really need to get busy. We are trying to leave at 8:30am tomorrow to go to OKC to do some shopping and have some fun before we fly out on Sunday!

But first, some shameless bragging on Tucker, my 16 year old, made a 33 on his ACT! Now he wants to try and raise it to a 35! Let's hope he gets some scholarships!

That is better then 98-99 percent of all people who took the test. That is PHAT! Congrats!

Enjoy the trip and know we will be thinking of y'all!

congrats to Tucker that is awesome.
I hope you're packed now and have fun shop in OKC. We'll see you down there in a few days and we'll party with Santa. Have a safe flight down,

Well, I finally got my pictures put on photobucket, so I will try to post some pictures.

This is the adorable sketch book Nathan got from Clared.

This is one of the tie dye Mickey shirts from Anna- we got one for the entire family. Unfortunately I already packed them up and forgot to get a picture of the entire family in ours, so you will have to wait until the trip report pictures to see them!

Here Nathan is waiting for his magic towel to open up.

And it is opened now!

Here is the very cool pencil pouch!

These are Nathan's favorite jammies now- his Mickey race car jammies. You know-the ones he calls his " motocross" jammies even though that would be a motorcycle, not a car. You might ask, what exactly is he doing with his hands? He is acting like he is driving a motocycle. I gave up trying to explain the difference to him. Like I've said before, once he gets something stuck in his brain it is very difficult to change.

And now the infamous duct tape wallets!

And the inside view!

Aren't they just adorable! Speaking of the wallet....we went to basketball games for William and Sam today. Nathan took his wallet for the concession stand. After the first game, I took Nathan to the other school for the next game while David went to a band boosters meeting. He was going to meet up with us at the next game in a bit. Now, I had gone and sat to visit with a friend at the end of the first game so I hadn't been with Nathan and David at the end of the game. When Nathan and I got to the second game, he couldn't find his wallet. He was beside himself with grief. I asked him if he had given it to his daddy. He said he didn't remember if he did. I tried to text David but he was in the middle of a meeting. Nathan was just inconsolable. I reminded him he had another one at home. He asked through his tears, " Do you think Corey would make me another red one with a black Mickey?" Luckily, once David got to the game, he did have the wallet. Disaster avoided!

Carol

I love all the pictures Carol!!!!

And, that is beyond sweet about Nathan and the wallet! I'm sure you won't read this until you get back, but tell Nathan that if he ever loses that wallet, I am SURE Corey will make him another one! :lovestruc
Right Corey?
Maybe you should have Nathan buy you a new car.:thumbsup2
You are funny Corey! ;)

Thanks for the pictures! I love the "motorcross Mickey" jammies! And the duct tape wallets are too cool! I know a DS9 that would LOVE one. Is that in the bookmarks Teresa?

You know, I don't think so! I'll have to ask Corey to send me some links!

I could see a weight was lifted off of Tucker's shoulders when I told him. He looked like he was about to cry and said, " Really?" Just 30 minutes or so a night will help him enjoy the rest of the trip so much!

Carol

That is great!

We got home last night- a little later than hoped. We had a plane delay in Houston. But that is okay-better to be delayed on the way home than on the way there! Also, Nathan had been complaining all day about not feeling great. We thought it was a bit of motion sickness combined with being sad about his trip being over. He was quiet all day. But once we walked in the door, he threw up all over the floor. At least it was on tile and he made it home. Again, better to be sick once we got home instead of on the trip. He woke up in the middle of the night and crawled in bed with us and said he felt fine. Maybe it was just his stomach's way of revolting from all the junk we ate on our trip :rotfl2: !

Anyway, on with the trip!

I can sum it up in one word-MAGICAL!!!!!

Oh, you want more detail? Let's start at the beginning........

Our plan was to throw our own going away party. William was already in OKC for a paint ball birthday party and Tucker was there for All-State Jazz band. The rest of us went and shopped. We met up with Tucker and were supposed to pick up William around 4:00pm, go to Pop's for dinner ( a little touristy diner that has over 400 different kinds of pop) and then play laser tag. Well, we got lost trying to find the paintball place and so we didn't get to Pop's until 5:30 and it was packed! 90 minute wait! No thank you! We did let each of the boys pick out a bottle of pop- the choices were staggaring. Some went tame with a fruit punch Nathan) or a root beer ( Tucker)- David got vanilla orange cream, I got vanilla cream, William got watermelon and Sam got blue raspberry. They then let Nathan make the choice- fast food and laser tag or Olive Garden and go to the hotel. He chose Olive Garden- our week of eating had begun! The boys loved the hotel ( a new Hyatt place that I got for $80 for a suite! I love a good deal!) and we hit the sack early to get rested for our trip!

We were all up ready to see the world bright and early. Well, most of us were up bright and early. William is our sleeper.

We went to airport parking where MAW had arranged for us to park and take a shuttle to the gate. Luckily, the airport is fairly empty because it takes us a while to get all of our stuff through security. I went to the check in gate for SW and said, " We are on a MAW trip and were told we would be able to get preboarding." We did this at every check in and didn't have a problem- some had no idea what we were talking about, but they still gave us preboarding. Finally, we are on the plane and ready to start our adventure.

DSCF2910.jpg

We had an incredibe flight attendant on our first flight. He was very funny and gave Nathan a lot of attention. He announced to the plane that Nathan was on a special trip and after the flight told him that the pilot had invited him to the cockpit to "fly the plane".

DSCF2908.jpg

We ran into our flight attendant in the terminal and got a picture with him. It was a perfect start ( BTW, none of the other attendants were nearly as attentive the rest of the trip)

DSCF2909.jpg

Nathan was very excited to be greeted with his name-he felt like a celebrity!

DSCF2917.jpg

The drive to GKTW was easy. David and I sat through a short welcoming orientation while the boys looked around the caring hearts welcome center. We recieved Nathan's magic button and pass. A side note here- usually at this welcoming, the wish child gets a Mickey and the siblings get a Shamu. All the kids get a t-shirt. We didn't know this was customary and it was our greeters first check in. When we checked out, we saw groups checking in and getting these things. I didn't want to say, " Hey, we didn't get those!" So I just pointed out the shirts and asked if there was somewhere we could buy them. Our check out person said, " Didn't you get one when you checked in?" I told her no and explained that it was our person's first time and I was sure she just forgot. She quickly got us our stuff- which worked out great because Nathan loved getting a Mickey at the end of our trip.

Finally we were at our home for the next week. We took a picture by our bunny sign with our name on it. Notice the boys gave the bunny bunny ears.

DSCF2922.jpg

The villa was great. Lots of room to unpack things. A King size bed in our room, 2 twins in the kids room, a sleeper sofa and a pull out bed. I organized the boys' clothes. Each boy had a shelf and then I put out the clothes for them to wear that day on the bottom shelf. Hey, we were coordinating clothes- I had to be organized!

We then explored the resort. Well, after we got some ice cream.

DSCF2932.jpg

The boys loved, loved, loved the mini golf. We played numerous games. The arcade was small, but my boys still enjoyed it. I never let them play those games when we are at places. Playing them for free was a luxury to them.

We then had our first dinner at the Gingerbread house. Somebody had mentioned previously that the place had a lot of unruly teenage volunteers. I think it really depends on the day. On Saturday there were a lot of teens standing around. They weren't rude, but not helpful. I think they were probably new volunteers. Most of the volunteers were extremely helpful. Our favorites were the older people who were there for breakfast. We would go to breakfast early when it wasn't crowded and the volunteers were extremely helpful and friendly. A couple of times over the week I would be in line somewhere and a teen would be by themselves. They wouldn't have a volunteer nametag on so I assumed they were a sibling. I would always say, " Go in front of us" - I hated a single person waiting for my entire family, and then find out they were a volunteer! A minor irritation. I think volunteers should know that they should never "cut" in front of a wish family, even if offered. But maybe that is just me. But for the most part, the volunteers were great but I could see how maybe a not so good batch might be there time to time.

Finally we went to the life size Candyland game. Matthew's boundless playground is incredible. Everybody really needs to visit there. We meant to go back during the day to take pictures, but I forgot. My boys love a good game ( they are a wee bit competitive) but this really wasn't a game. You were assigned a volunteer ( this night most of them were Disney employees and were great!) and they had you pick a card and do silly things to each square. Not really my boys cup of tea ( but the younger kids seemed to enjoy it) but they were good sports. And Kevin, our guide, was great.

DSCF2949.jpg

He even did William and Sam's signature point. My nephew, Daniel, started working at DL this summer. He told us at Disney you are only allowed to point with 2 fingers or a full hand. CMs told him that after a while you find yourself pointing that way all the time. Notice how Kevin is pointing. My boys loved that! He was a true Disneyite!

They also had queen Frostine and Princess Lolly at Candyland. I play Candyland a lot with my speech kids at work, so I got pictures of them for my kids!

DSCF2952.jpg

Well, that is about it for our first day. I guess I'd better go get ready for church.

Sorry Nathan was sick, hope he is back to normal now!!
All I can say is popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::
