Nathan was born on June 5, 2005. One week later we found out he had Down Syndrome and embarked on a journey with lots of peaks and valley's. November 2008 Nathan had his adenoids removed and he developed a severe neck/airway infection and required a tracheostomy to be placed on December 22, 2008. He did well and on June 29th, 2009 his tracheostomy tube was removed. One week and one day after Nate's tracheostomy tube was removed, July 7th 2009, he was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia B Cell). Nate's port was placed on July 9th and his first dose of spinal (intrathecal) chemotherapy was started. When does it all end???????

We decided to wait until Nate was done with treatment to go on his Wish Trip. Happy to report that November 23rd is the end of his leukemia treatment. On October 23rd 2012 we are going to Ohio to train and receive Nate's Service Dog also... This year and next will be two years of celebration and thankfulness. We have traveled a long road and are ready for some good times. Ironically, the last time Nate was at Disney was for his 3rd birthday in June 2008. He got sick that fall. We are looking forward to going back at the end of this journey. Looking forward to all the trips and tricks of the trades to be learned here. Thanks to everyone ahead of time for your input!

Hi! I have a service dog myself and my disabled ds love him. He is so calming and gentle. When I take the dog to his school, all the kiddos flock to us, and it gives Ds great social opportunity to "share" my dog with his peers. Ds has seizures and runs from us a lot, so when he is old enough, we want to get him his own seizure/search and rescue dog. Good luck with your make a wish trip planning.

I forget, are you headed to Ohio for Nathan's new dog?

We are going to Xenia Ohio. We are getting our dog from 4 Paws for Ability and so excited.

Awesome start to your pre-trip report!

You have a beautiful family! :)

I put a link to your report on the Wish Trippers thread so that people can find you guys! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Wish Mom Alumni here...when I had time (eons ago) I always posted happy pics for all. Taking time to do that this morning for my fellow Wish Families...I hope all is well!

So sorry that Nate, and your family, has gone through so much. So happy that he is getting his wish. :)

Poor little guy, he has been through so much. Praying that it is all behind him and looking forward to reading about a fabulous trip.

We got our dates May 1 - 7. Do we extend by two days???? And having a hard time deciding on Discovery Cove????

Nate is 7 with Down Syndrome. Not sure the part would be totally appropriate for him as we WON'T be snorkeling.. Have to pay for my hubby to come to the park too.

May 1 - 7 2013. Now should we extend???? Is Discovery Cove dolphin swim worth it??? We have to pay for my hubby to go.

So many things to think about.

Our new dates are April 29th - May 7th. We are extending two days off the back and moving from GKTW to a disney resort.

One decision down.
