Okay so here it is...my mother has just finished her last round of chemotherapy for lung cancer...and to answer the obligatory question of 'oh..did she smoke?'...yes...she DID smoke...30 YEARS ago...lung cancer is NOT punishment folks, it's an illness...since her mother made her promise 30 plus years ago that she would quit smoking...she did. And managed to live a relatively healthy lifestyle for three decades...fast forward 30 something years to a cancer diagnosis and dozens of stunned family members later...yikes. Well long story short...I asked her what her most memorable moment was, what she would love to recreate to celebrate her 'fight' (win or lose) She told me of a very hard time of her life and a long awaited and epic all girls 1960's vacation to Paris, France...she loved the little bar she and her girlfriends went to to enjoy a raspberry after dinner drink every night during her trip....well...my sisters and I can't really afford nor do I think her health would allow, a proper Paris, France vacation...but I would love to throw her a themed Epcot party...whether it's just a dessert/illuminations party, or a sit down meal for a nice amount of loved one's cocktails and/or dinner party...My sisters and I are all debating what we should do to celebrate her 'fight' we all have VERY different ideas...but this is mine...our time is limited and our plans need to flow smoothly...I know DFTW are VERY specific and strict about their planning rules, but do they allow for extenuating circumstance type celebrations and how willing are they to work with above and beyond requests? There is no website or thread on 'Disney Parties' or at least none that I've come across...if there is, I'd love some direction...thanks so much...

How thoughtful of you and your family to want to plan something special for your mother. :goodvibes

You don't need to be having a wedding to plan a private event at Disney. They have a department called Disney Catered Events (321-939-7278) that can help you plan a private party like an IllumiNations dessert party in France, or a brunch/lunch/dinner there or anywhere inside the parks or at the resorts.

I have more information about planning non-wedding private events on my website: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/private-party/

Lurkyloo planned her own private dessert party- I'm sure you could do that. Disney Catered Events should be be able to help you out... I'm sure she'll be able to give you more details and have the link... She also hosted the most amazing looking private dinner outside the Tower of Terror. Either way, I'm sure it's possible.
