There is a nasty stomach bug going around the Orlando area. I work at a private school and we had 49 kids out today with it.

If visiting the area, wash those hands often!!!!

oh yuck! thanks for the note feralpeg!

there is a bug going around here too (Ottawa) ds has it, threw up all night. (YUCK) i hope i DON"T get it but that if i DO have to get it, that i get it this week ..over done with and all healed and ready to go in 26 days to the world!

Don't even say that! We leave in 11 days... for our one vacation this year. They'd better get it all out of their systems and away from me within that time! :thumbsup2

We got a minor "intestinal distress" bug (if you know what I mean), while in Orlando last week. It affected almost everyone in our party, including two of my three grandaughters (one is 3 1/2 months old, and was not happy). We were super careful, but still got a little of it.

Thanks for the heads up! We leave on Sat.

I got home and have the WORST cold!!! All I think about is all the people who "sneezed" around me last week!!!

That would be my excuse,.. check for mickey tattoo's when the children come back :-)

Great.

We are currently getting over a month-long cold in our house. My doctor's office said that there have been several cases of contagious pneumonia going around as well.

We all have a doctor's appt tomorrow morning, and we get our flu shots.

I plan on taking plenty of Airborne the entire time I'm there. I suggest it for everyone else going, as well!

I highly recommend the foaming hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works. Love that stuff for the kids! We sanitize after almost every ride now and wash our hands well in the restrooms when we can. The first 2 years we took the older kids, we all came home and threw up for a week. I learned my lesson, and we are crazy hand-washers now. We've never been sick after a trip since 2000 though, so I am Ok with being crazy.

we too got sick two weeks ago in Orlando, all of us. Seems to be alot of that going around in the theme parks this time of month, lots of people sounded sick in general (lots of coughing, blowing noses, etc)

The parks are busy -- and will be for the holidays. Tons of people around. Just use extra precaution.
At work I have not seen anyone unusually sick. Actually it is pretty quiet, illness-wise.

Just curious...is there ever a good time to go to WDW, perhaps when there is a smaller likelihood that we might catch something? I know that there are certain cold and flu seasons and I also understand that due to the large volumes of people who congregate at the theme parks, Disney is a veritable breeding ground for all sorts of lovely contagious illnesses. I have to say that I absolutely loathe stomach bugs, especially the type that involve vomiting as this can really put a damper on your vacation (to say the least!!). Just wondering if anyone had heard anything regarding illness trends in Orlando so I can potentially avoid those travel times!! :rotfl:

My kids are both crippled over. Going around New York Too!

I saw some birds looking at my kids and breathing a sigh of relief that they can't catch it.

The bad news is that it involves vomiting. The good news is that it seems to be just a 24 hour bug. They were talking about it on the local news. It is pretty widespread here.

There is also an upper respiratory bug. I had that one already. It was pretty bad. It lasted a good two weeks.

Remember, your best defense is keeping your hands away from your face and washing often, especially after touching all those railings at WDW.

I hope those of you vacationing here stay well. We did the sick at WDW thing in the past. No fun!

Not sure if there is a "less germy" time to travel to WDW. The first 2 years when we were so sick we traveled in March and then June. We've been lucky in December.....or it's the obsessive hand-cleaning. :)

The 24 hour stomach bug is going around here (north Dallas) too. My son had it last week. We have gotten sick twice at WDW, once in the summer and once at Christmas. I doubt with so many folks there that any time is more "safe" than any other.

I agree that there is no time that WDW is less risky for bugs. Think about how people come from all over the world. The busier it is, the more risk there is, but the risk is never gone. You must protect yourself.

On a side note to this; I discourage the whole "put this hat on to take a picture practice". Lice are always present at WDW because of the variety of people there. If you must try on or buy a hat, ask a cast member to bring one out from the stock room. That way it has never ben touched before.

We came home on Oct. 22nd and 3 of the 5 of us got the 24 hours stomach bug. Not fun, but at least it was over quickly!

Sanitize schmanitize! We Purelled and wiped in a compulsive way and ...
thank goodness we didnt get sick during the trip but the last day DS9 wasnt himself ( I thought he was just bummed because we were leaving) and the last 10 minutes of the flight he was sick like I've never seen. I felt so badly for the others on the flight! He had to walk off the plane in my sweatshirt and Mickey boxers! :rotfl:
DS3 got it two days later.

I dont know if I will be a crazy pureller next time!

Please dont think I am cruel for laughing at my DS- I felt terrible for the guy- but thank goodness for those boxers!
